For me, the intro to this song (not the video) has got to be one of the most brutal things I've heard.

Dimmu is alright, definitely better than Nickelback, but for their genre they're a bit on the mainstream side. If extreme underground metal is your thing, check out Behemoth.

I do listen to Behemoth too... Good stuff there!

I've heard people say the Dimmu Borgir is mainstream, but I've never figured out why. Care to enlighten me?

Like I said, to me, it's just a function of the genre that they fit in. For a genre whose great hallmark is lo-fi sound, the use of cheap or vintage recording gear, and oftentimes intentionally bad production, Dimmu typically has good production and clear CD quality sound. Behemoth has good production too, but they air more toward extreme death metal than black metal.

That's true... DB definitely has a lot more polish for being a black metal band. I get most of my black metal from my brother, and some of the stuff he gives me sounds like it was recorded with a line-out from a distortion pedal.

I wouldn't all either of those bands black metal, honestly. Behemoth still kicks though.

I've been back into rock and metal for about 5 years after about 10 years only listening to drum & bass/breakbeat and hip hop. One of my fave bands over the past few years is Chimaira, consistently awesome:

I can't get into anything Devin Townsend for some reason. I'm into a lot of "experimental" metal, but the project sounds like doofy (technical term) carnival music and SYL sounds cheesy. There's some cool moments, but I have never heard a full song he's been involved with that I can get into. I guess I'm mostly into heavier stuff or something, I don't really know.

I hate to stir but  SYL is not considered heavier stuff???

I will agree with his solo project being circus music, even that still gets heavy. But saying SYL is not in the heavier stuff catergory is like saying Cheerios is not cereal.

SYL is heavy if you're into more 'accessible' (for lack of a better term) metal. But, I'm into the gnarly stuff like Brodequin and Devourment, so that's sort of what I meant. Of course, it's all subjective and pointless to argue, but you get where I'm coming from.

Townsend seems like something I would be into, but it has never clicked with me.

Ok yeah I see what you mean. And wow Brodequin, bringin it back old school thank you for reminding me I forgot about those guys.

One of my favorite releases with that style of metal is Internal Bleeding: Varacious Contempt. Not AS extreme but still fits the genre

So many edits: and So many styles of metal.

That Townsend Project you REALLY have to be open minded to listen to.

For me its like listening to Deathspell omega. At first your like WTF, but after a while it all makes sense.

Been listening to it primarily since ... 2nd or 3rd grade?

I'll likely never stop listening, but I can say that as much as I like the genre, I also only REALLY dig about 5% of what I hear. i also listen to a bunch of different genre's today, but heavier stuff still makes up the majority of my cd collection by a long shot.
