Yes.

To quote Kerry King, " I'm the most mellow easy going guy you'll ever meet, put me in traffic and I'm a death row inmate."

Not since HS really (8 years ago). It just seems so contrived to me now. Is anyone that angry all the time? Not saying I won't nod my head to "Walk" or "The Shortest Straw when it comes on the radio. And I'll jam some metal riffs every now and then to keep my picking hand tuned.

I thought the same years ago but you have to pick out the one's who have a real talent for it and weed out the pretenders. There's countless metal bands out there that bore the shit out of me after a few songs. SYL was Townsends outlet for insane heaviness, he was also making solo albums that were much different. And he even has some material you could play on Lite FM.

He can go from this.

To This.

To This.

And this.

i listened to metal from age 13 to age 23. after that not so much. occasionally ill go back to it but usually just for a day or so.

I don't know how metal this is but i was listening to this last weekend.

She will rip your balls off :scared:
WTF was that???

I'm going through a Devin phase right now as well. I must have listened to Deconstruction at least 10 times in the past two weeks. I've turned off other albums halfway through and switched back to Deconstruction a couple of times, so yeah I guess I know what you mean. Addictive stuff.

I've been in a Dev phase since about 08. :D Not sure what it is but I like all his stuff. He's got the perfect screaming metal voice.

when I go heavy it's usually Nevermore or Heaven and Hell.

sorry, that youtube link/band sucked (IMHO). I didn't listen to whole thing but it gave me a headache.

when I'm really pissed, I listen to Gojira. nothing else comes close.

animals as leaders is really good as well, but they're way more complex.

i go b/n jazz and metal mostly. nothing can beat miles davis overall. most of these newer metal bands totally lack any concept of dynamics.

smashing pumpkins gish was badass.

and honestly, nothing beats (very) hard rock like ministry, nin, helmet, stp. not sure if those are metal or not but they're heavy enough live, i've seen them all.

godflesh was badass too.

Sorry but I think NIN, Gojira, Pumpkins pretty much suck. :D

Dead Guy from Ministry Filth Pig is sick. that is animal. that band was way too loud live. scary.

I think NIN is far more dynamic than most metal. I still listen to them and a few of their contemporaries quite regularly.

Ministry, egh, they reaked of 90's lameness to me. :D

I just can't place this stuff or put a label on it. I think Meshugah is pretty awesome to.

STL and Devin's other projects are fucking brilliant! He opened my mind to a lot of musical possibilities. And yes, when I'm in a metal phase, I go ALL OUT metal and get really bored with other stuff, but then I have a total mood swing and start listening to AIC or Soundgarden or something like that, and I get stuck on it for awhile.

This kind of ties in with what I was thinking about earlier this week. I've been frustrated with my band because the other guitarist only wants to learn cover shit and most of it is cock-rock and "whatever gets the girls to show their tits!" AC/DC and typical bar songs are good and all, but I grew up on AIC, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Meshuggah, Pantera, Glassjaw, Failure, Year of the Rabbit, etc. and progressed into the newer stuff like TesseracT and Devin, Karnivool.... I get bored with normal radio songs. I want to make some crazy progressive stuff.

true alternative to me always is and was and will be Mr. Bungle and Primus. That's some messed up shit.

NIN and Pumpkins aside, if you like Devin and Meshuggah, I would imagine that Gojira would be right up your alley as well... I said the same at first, just didn't get the band. All of a sudden, something clicked. They have a sound that is really inhuman, and Joe is in my own opinion one of the best vocalists in modern metal. Not only is he a great screamer, but he screams on pitch too. It's madness, but I can't get enough of the band.

i'm listening to the latest LOG. not impressed. i think they used Mark V's and RA's on that album. killadelphia DVD is sick.

Gojira and NIN are totally badass, trust me. so is some of the Marylin manson stuff.

@ 3:00 that's the best eat shit fuck off part I've ever heard, any style of music, hands down. there's a half-step key change there from D to D#. heavy as shit for D, not A like Korn, etc.

total ghetto.
