I've seen here on this forum and other ones that a lot of gear is just not selling. Some guys have had the same stuff for sale for months. Some of it is due to high prices but there's a lot of gear out there at decent prices that just doesn't seem to be selling. Just my observation.

I feel like the market is coming down in some ways, on some things. A lot guys trying to maxxx out profit on their stuff, and the market just isn't there. I think there are going to be some guys pretty dissapointed that they decided to buy stuff at hyped up prices.

I've actually had more luck selling here locally lately. Which is odd.

As far as buying any bigger ticket items, I had responded in the 2022 "new gear" thread that I wasn't buying this year. But, I broke that early and picked up a Kemper. However, my plan is to really scale back the buying this year. I went kind of nuts last year, and have pretty much what I want right now so unless it's something that I really want or find an extraordinary deal on.. I'm refraining.

Tax season right now and a lot just don’t have it.

Plus I believe more people are playing. Summer is coming up and are always harder to sell as well since people are either out gigging or enjoying other hobbies if they don’t gig.

Personally I don't want to buy through reverb anymore cause after taxes and shipping on current prices you basically end up paying new prices.

Also everyone has been grabbing up gear like crazy it had to taper off eventually. the guys who snapped up gear just to flip at crazy prices are going to get a reality check. I saw some listings that there is no way they are going to get their asking price. A VTM120 for $2200, Mesa IIC for 25k, and all the 5150's at 2k?
Most of these prices had to come down eventually. Pretty soon we will be able to get whatever we are looking for relatively cheap

i dont even want to calculate how much more im spending a month as opposed to this time last year. i drive a lot and fill my tank up three times a week, gas was 1.95 here when i got my truck in december 2020 and its now 3.60 here, my tank is 16 gallons. ad in everything else that has gone up and i have to be spending at least $400 a month extra. thats a lot of money i would have been spending on gear that i just cant justify right now unless its some super deal

I have quite a few friends who decided to start playing guitar/bass at the start of corona. Almost all of them, that guitar/bass is sitting in a corner, and hasn't been touched in awhile. Some are already starting to sell. I think you are going to see a lot more of this. Maybe not on the extreme high collector end (beginners dont know about that realm anyway) but the days of the $500-600 used Mex Strat won't last long.

The prices of used guitars and amps have really been crazy. As in, just ad $1,000 to the price. USA 2008 Charvel San Dimas that sold for $975-$1,000 pre-pandemic, are selling for close to $2k. R8's that were $2,800 are now $3,500. Crazy, and I hope the market brings prices to a more reasonable level.

You bring up a good point, we hit 7.5% inflation in January which is the highest inflation rate since 1982. Gas where I am at is $4.29 a gallon. The dollar just doesn’t go as far as it used to - workers wages are way behind inflation rate increases. Essentially the whole nation has been financially demoted.

It was a sellers market but that may change around again as these things always go in cycles.
Again though, food prices up, gas prices up....everything else going up. Less cash for other things.

There is also a huge number of people (including me) that are busy filling their pantries right now.

Music equipment has been put on the back burner.

Not to mention restaurants have dramatically raised their prices too. A burger, fries and soda is now a $20 bill before the tip. No thanks.

There's several things I would have liked to pounce on in classifieds over the last few months, but the 50 post rule. I get why it's there, but I imagine I am not the only one that would otherwise be buying things.

I used to buy A LOT of gear. It really came to a halt 2 years ago so when prices just got ridiculous. I just don't need the stuff that's so overpriced. It seems people just keep trying to up each other with prices. So I just don't buy. Only things I am always ready to buy are the really rare items that come up here and there. I mean, I bought a Jose Marshall, which is NOT cheap. But, it's one of my bucket list amps and something that will definitely hold value. Highly doubt I'll lose money on it. I'm ok with those acquisitions.

Think about it -

A JP2C used to sell used for 1800-1900. Now I see them for close to 3k.

Vintage Marshall JMP/ 800 were 1200-1500. Now, 2800-3000.

Mesa Mark iii were 1000-1200, now 2500.

Etc, etc, etc.....

At the same time, people have been spending at unprecedented levels recently. That's starting catch up and those people are realizing there's not much cushion in their liquid assets.

That’s why every week there is another one closing here and the ones usually with a line to get in are now half full. Restaurants are a tough business, I worked at a pizza place for years.
