Looking into an EVH 2x12 cab, as I got a great price. Anybody have experiences?
Good, tight sounding speakers, or look elsewhere? Want to match with the 50 watt head.

I'm using an EVH 2x12 with my Splawn Quickrod. Love it.

Any insight as to how focused, and what to expect? More Greenback, than V30, I would assume.

It will mate well with the head. I have the evh 4x12 and have played the 212 a few times.

Not as tight as a vintage30, not as bright either, but I think thats a good thing for the 50. Imo the 50 can still sound plenty modern and mean with the 2x12. And to me the low mids are bigger and punchier through greenie style speakers which works in the amps favor. I used to run my 50 and 100 through v30s but getting the evh cab changed that real quick

I'm using the EVH 2X12 right now with my EVH 5150 III. Very happy with the results: tight but still very open sound that works well with many different pickup combinations. I especially like how it works with single coils, really blooms the note with nice definition in the mids.
I have a lot of success with it live too, really kicks a higher volume.

I had one last year and I really liked it. It projected nicely. I liked the slight tilt to the baffle to angle it upwards. The speakers sounded great with that particular head.

:)

Wish they made a version that handled more power...

Agreed, they should consider putting creambacks in the 212 so it more closely matches the 412, IMO.

I know its not what you really asked but I have the 5150 III 50 watt and (2) of the EVH 1x12s and they have a little too much high end so I am considering changing to the Lynchback speakers. I am wondering how much difference the 2x12 would be overall, if it would tame some of the highs?

This is pertinent to my interests. I have the 50 and 100 watt heads and have been running them thru Splawn SB25s and I really like the tone. Tried the 50 watt thru WGS Retro 30s last night....really liked that too !!!

I have had an EVH 2x12 in my cart on musicians friend for a week now. Can get it new for$399. Im gassing for it but I dont know that I NEED it. I bought the 100 watt head bc I liked the 50 so much. Turns out I like the 50 watt better and did mot NEED the 100 watt head either.

Gas. Its an abomination.

Been down this road.. I have 2 Mesa Thieles with MC90's, (English-made CL80's tweaked), and I've yet to find a better 2x12. My Randall screams through it, as does the EVH, but thought of separating the two. The Thieles are the SHIT!

Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains) is using them onstage as guitar monitors - must be OK??

Wanna trade your 100w for my old 3 per QR for a couple weeks? ;)

I have the 50 watter that I run through the EVH 2X12. In fact, didn't I buy the EVH amp from you?

Anyway, yeah, they make a good pair. Prior to getting the EVH cab I used it with a Recto 2x12, and it sounded good with v30s, but it definitely mates well with the EVH cab. The tilting legs are cool.

Damn it. Gonna pull the trigger on the 2x12 thanks to this thread.

I hope you all choke.

I've got the 50 watt and really dig it. GREAT head for the cash. What do you like about the 50 watt better than the 100 watt? Just curious. I've never heard the 100 watt in person.

Two huge differences in them that steer me to the 50 watt:

1. Blue channel has more gain on the 50watt.

Not just a little .. a lot. I have tried boosting the 100 watt with a Ts9 and a Majik Box Aldrich Rocket Fuel and still cannot get the sound I get from the 50 watt.

2. Red channel on 100 watt seems very compressed.

I use the red channel for solos only. On the 100 watt when I kick on the red channel I seem to get lost in the mix. I keep the gain around 11 oclock and my sound just seems to evaporate.

The blue channel and red channel are more balanced on the 50 watt to my ears. Bc the blue has more gain then shifting to the red channel is seemless and adds sizzle.

Thats my take. Ive gigged the 100 watt for the last 4 weekends and Im fairly sure that the 50 watt is going to be the gigging amp from now on.

....and.......the 2x12 black cab has been ordered from Musicians Friend. Got a new one for $399. Should arrive at the end of the week.

Now I have to sell these Mesa 2x12 cabs I have just because I am running out of room and have no place to store all this crap.......
