Evh 5150 iii or prs archon

Have a guy who wants to trade me a 5153 50watt for my archon..... What is your guys thoughts i play tight chuggy metal.... I like the archon but hate the fx loop....

I do it. 5150 amps (peavey or evh albeit different) are chug machines. IMO the 50w 6l6 is the best of the evh amps

Yeah ive been considering it but the archon is worth a bunch more

100watt archon its noisey and pops when switching.... All the early ones had the issue most guys just lived with it... I mainly record so extra noise is a no go

I've owned both amps, still have the EVH. Actually, I think the Archon kicks serious ass. The gain is a bit more refined and smooth than the EVH, and more usable at extreme settings. The Archon's clean channel also dominates the EVH. But I found the Archon to be a bit lacking in low end, especially at practice volumes. The EVH is definitely a chug machine, and possibly the best sounding low-volume tube amp I've played for this style of music (if that matters to you).

You are right, the Archon 100 is more valuable though, but if the loop is sucking then maybe a fair trade. Good luck!

Pretty sure if you contact PRS they’ll fix the loop for free, or send parts and instructions to your tech.

From what ive read there fix doesnt really fix it its clipping a cap and swapping one resistor im gonna try it but ive read it dont work

Do the trade but ask for cash on top. Archon is worth 400-500 more.

I traded my archon combo for an evh 5150 iii 50 watt combo. No regrets at all. Love it.

The guy I traded amps with wanted to trade back after two weeks.

I've seen those 5153s go for 500 used on Craigslist....I'd keep the PRS and save for a used EVH. 2 is better than 1 right?

I would not do that trade, the PRS Archon sounds better and has more $$$ value.

If it were one of the 100 watt 5150 iii heads, I might consider it but still probably not.

I used to have a 5150iii, great amp that I foolishly sold. I currently have an Archon 50 and it's a killer amp.

Can't go wrong with either, but I think it's good you didn't trade it away.
