I personally dig the heck out of the head, one of my all time favorites and definitely my favorite for recording at lower volume. I have owned the EVH 4 times (insert laughter) the second one twice. There are other amps I really liked as much or better when just playing them in a room (Budda SD80 or 45/VHT Deliverance) but they did not record as well for my tastes. I live in an apartment, so low volume is a must.
I have owned a few 5150s over the years, I personally don't find them that close... The EVH is more Fendery and has a clearer/quicker response, the 5150 has a broader midrange roar and the gain is more saturated... YMMV
The cab is cool, but it is too vintage Marshall for my ears, and it sounds best when the amp is cranked loud. I prefer the Genz G-Flex with a couple ports closed, or an older Genz 4x12 I have... I guess I am an Eminence guy
While they may not be the best clips, all the clips at my myspace are the EVH, All the leads are the Blue channel with a BB preamp goosing it a tiny bit, rhythms are 1 blue channel-1 red channel
I hope it helps!
