I love this amp. Honeymoon one month in. Just want to see if anyone has experimented. I'm currently running it through an OS Dr. Z vertical semi-open back.

Tubes
Has anyone tried experimenting with tubes for this 5153? I.e. maybe a tube with less gain for channel 3 to "open it" a bit more and give it more range on the gain? I don't really turn up the gain past 11oclock on Channel 3.

What about a JJ 5751 or ECC803-S in V4, V5, or V6?

Has anyone tried anything different in V1?

Speakers
Also, I'm looking at Scumback speakers with my 5153 50W. I play an OS semi-back with 2 G12H30 Anniversary's, but am wondering which Scumbacks may work best. I want the clarity, highs and punch of the Anniversary's, but I NEED the cut of a V30, so like a G12H/V30 mix. I was looking at the following combos
-M75/H75
-H55/BH75 (Blackback H75)
-BM75/J75

It's all a bit confusing to me with the Scumbacks, but I'm sure there's a combo that is exemplary for this amp.

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas!

I use my EVh with V30s, but the answer everyone gives when it comes to the best cab is the EVH 4x12 or 2x12

Well, Jim doesn't make anything that sounds like a V30. But I really like the M/J mix myself and think that may be a good mix for the EVH. Still have that basic greenback tone, but tighter bottom and a bit extended highs from the J.

Well, I have 2 G12H30's (Anni's) same speakers that come with the EVH 2x12, and they sound great! BUT...When I jam with my buddy who has the 5153 50W through a Mesa with 2 V30's, his has more "cut" and it's slightly louder.

So, I have a Hellatone 60 which I intend to mix with the Anniversary, AND I have a WGS Retro 30 that I intend to try.

I also am looking at Scumbacks.

Ive got the EVH cab with the EVH celestions and it just sounds incredible!!

So last night I put in the WGS Retro 30 so it's mixed with the Celestion G12H30 Anniversary. I really like the tone of the 2 Anniversary's; they seemed a bit tame, so it lacked a bit of that "cut" for live use.

However, the Retro is not broken in yet and it DEFINITELY has that V30 sounds. I really don't think I would like the sound of 2 V30's with this amp. I HAVE a Hellatone 60 in my hands, so I am going to plug that speaker in with the G12H30 and see how that mixes with it.

I am now thinking of getting either the WGS Reaper HP or ET65 to mix with the Hellatone or Retro 30 OR with the G12H30.

I am also of thinking to get the M75/BH75 or H55/BH75 Scumback combo. I see a lot of people like the M75/H75, but those Blackbacks sound really good!
