I have a friend looking for liquidy compressed gain that's fluid and forgiving ala the Red Channel on the 5153 in a pedal format that he can play through a tube clean channel.

It doesn't have to be or sound like the 5153, it just has to be super gainy (he's obsessed with crazy gain) and easy under the fingers.

He's going to try the BE-OD and we were thinking something like the Rev G4 Red.

Suggestions?

thats a tough one, you could recommend a thousand of them for that. one of the bogner pedals maybe?

I really dig the Pinnacle Deluxe for that vibe. Despite the greasy, gainy vibe, it still provides excellent string separation and articulation. Killer, killer ‘amp-in-a-box’ pedal.

It may be worth checking out the Bogner Ecstasy Red pedal. I haven't played the newer smaller version so I can't comment on that one, but the old larger one would be worth checking out. It has the feel and forgiveness factor under the fingers. For my tastes it was better suited for lead playing than rhythm. I found it a little soft in attack for faster, thrashier stuff, but depending on his style that may not matter. It's pretty gainy too and has a built-in boost (takes od pedals in front good as well). It isn't as over-the-top as the EVH red channel, but it's a great pedal.

Then there's always the MXR 5150 overdrive. I haven't played that one, but it sounds plenty gained out.

Those mooers do look cool, I was curious about the diezel and engl ones

He’s gonna look at the Boss OD-200 first, then the Mooer Preamp Live. Let you know what he thinks of the Boss later today.

If neither of those hit the spot, the Wampler Pinnacle Drive could be worth a look in. Also the JHS AT+ has loads of gain, lovely tone and feels great fun to play.

AMT R/S Lead for sure

Here's a lil clip I did with mine:
