Standing by that comment, that pedal no doubt has a line level increase to loosen those plexi amps up a tad for supersoaked wank.

You know it to be true

you got acid in your skoal! :D

i think they have a signal drop if anything.

I am on some official doctor perscribed dope right now due to blasting a jet ski way to high off a wave last week while pickled on Jose Silver and the back is a tad tender.

loopy is a good word!

yeah wrong phrase maybe...

makes a plexi more forgiving!

I believe the level is hotter.

these things are good....

These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face. These things are a drag: dust in my hair, holes in my shoes, no money in my pocket, and the sun shining on my face.

Hey, Why the long face?

We must be speaking of laughing at midgets fighting on Springer?

That crab midget dude was something special.

The MXR Phase 90 is something special. It has that just right phasing tone.
It boosts maybe a little, but mostly what I think you're noticing is that it gets rid of a bit of the the dry amp feel.
On gigs I don't really use it for soloing, Eddie trademarked that sound too much. Everything sounds like Eddie with that pedal on when soloing. As soon as I use it some men in the audience recognize that sound right away and start calling out for Van Halen songs. Shaddup with the VH requests!!!!

You ever see a bunch of drunk men on the dance floor getting in to Panama...ya, there're not getting laid tonight.

My 74 reissue was tweaked to be a little more subtle;what was done was nothing more than a few resistor swaps. I run it in a barge concepts loop/blend pedal to make it a even more subtle and add a little boost. Ed did throw some bogus info out to throw people off of the trail, but i think he was being pretty straight up about what his Phase90 did and how he used it. By itself, mine adds a ver small amount of boost, and even at the most subtle setting, it's still too much; IMHO, the block logo isn't even in the ballpark. However, when I use my blender pedal, it gives 6db of boost and allows me to dial it in to be more subtle, and it's spot on.

I feed that into an old MXR 6 band EQ, sometimes a flanger in b/w, and into the front end of the amp. I don't notice that it loosens the amp up. I find that varaiacing the amp down to 90'ish volts softens the feel. Some might call that "loosening the amp up". However, doing it like Ed did, requires that you bias it up to 80ma and then drop the voltage. (Big props to Dave Freidman for this info) This is where a lot of the "brown sound" comes from. I'm using some stupidly expensive Sylvania 6ca7s to do it, but that's the way it's done. The P90 has nothing to do with that. He also had low filtering on the screens (32uf) and a power transformer that sagged something like 70ma under load contributing to a springier, softer feel. The Phase 90 was more of a treble boost than anything else. Maybe if his Phase 90 was full of fiber. ;)
