Had a MIM Charvel and it was like a cheap toy next to my Custom Shop Charvel. I've seen others say that the MIM's were on par with USA made Charvels, but that was far from my experience with them.

I agree. Last one I had was absolute garbage.

Man...I've been damn close and am still considering buying one of these, however - especially having gotten away from double-locking trem guitars for quite some time, this post continues haunting me.

i headed back to my local mom/pop this weekend to play the one they have as a trade-in. it's 2016 model. set up standard tuning, with 9's..so nothing real exotic going on there...

i played for a few minutes, got it acclimated to my hands, then tuned it up at the head and locked it down at the nut. I went full bends, small dives and big dives...for the most part it held solid, except on full dives,,, it would roll sharp. Just looking at it..everything looked good, but i'm not a full-on tech either. the bass side was off the body, treble side was on the body...don't know if that had anything to do with it or not...but yea, rolled sharp on full dives. Crazy.

If i had the money to burn right now, i don't know that i'd let that deter me from trying one, but with a really solid return policy. that said,,,for the $$, i believe i'd rather find a Peavey WG.

Still love the red/ebony board....

I can tell you, from my experience, the Floyd on it is cheap garbage. The Jackson SL2's have a much better Floyd. In fact, I'm going that route. Plus, I get my Duncan Distortions too!.

Both my Wolfgangs had screws that were just a tiny bit to long holding the nut in place. Correct that problem and the guitar will stay in tune, at least mine did...

Great quality control. You'd think they'd correct it, rather than forcing the poor schlep who bought it to deal with it, as I've read this numerous places, along with shimming, grinding, drilling, hammering, etc. Fuck EVH.

I put this on my first post in the thread. I remember someone talking about this a few years ago. It does blow my mind that they would let them out of the factory with these blatant flaws. If you shim down the screws, it will work but should you really have to do that?

Same thing happened on mine, just file down the screws OR put a washer under the bolt head.

When the Wolfgang Specials first came out they were made in Japan with the same hardware as the USA models, but since then they moved production to Mexico, then to China, stopped including a hard case, and stopped using the USA pickups, and hardware. They didn't even drop the price. I wonder where yours is built. I have a MIJ hardtail with the locking nut, tonepros locking TOM bridge, and Floyd rose fine tune tailpiece, and it is a killer guitar. I played a couple of the MIC ones a while ago, and the fit and finish on the necks was no where near as good. I have heard a lot of good things about the MIJ Floyd rose Specials, if you dig everything else about the guitar it might be worth while looking for a MIJ one to replace it with if you are returning it.

Mine was current production MIM.
I don't want another that bad. In fact, I'll never buy another. My Schecter made in Korea blows that piece of shit out of the water, no contest. But, it is also a higher end Schecter made at World Musical Instruments, where the PRS SE's and some higher end ESP 1000 series, (they moved the EC-1000) to Indonesia.

My $300 MIK Schecter C1+ feels and plays a lot better most of today's 'high end' guitars. For me. :dunno:

I paid peanuts for mine, WITH CASE, MINT! Together, they were well over $1,000 new. It's as nice as any Ibanez Prestige I've owned. STUPID nice, plays like a dream, stupid low action.

You get what you pay for, period.

No not really. He paid 1k for the Wolf. Should have a gotten a decent guitar; did not.
Conversely, he paid "peanuts" for that Schecter and it delivered big for him.
Money does not always equal quality

More often it does and a grand doesn't get you what it used to. Not saying a cheap guitar won't get you across the finish line but you will never own a fine instrument unless you pay for it. Good luck to the OP he seems to have a lot of bad luck

It'd be cool if that did the trick...for no moneizes at all.

I know very little about, what I'd consider, really invasive setups. But...I saw I guy on YT took the nut off, which had shims, removed those and in turn adjusted the bridge height, the term claw screws, shimmed the neck...it looked like a lot for a brand new guitar...but he swore the WG Special needed it to make it a top, and stable player. His reasons could be completely unrelated to what you have going on.

I solved the problem. I boxed it up and sent it back!
I'll get an ESP or another Schecter.
I have been wanting the ESP LTD "Black Metal" single SD Black Winter humbucker, the Strat bodied one but they have their single cut and Viper bodied guitars as well..unless you want the extra humbucker like the Wolfgang look into one of these..really good guitar, stays in tune well and rocks !!

Man I am sorry about your Wolfgang(s) being fucked up,wonder how they pass through QC like that ? More like lack of QC.. Good luck in your search.

Picked up a Jackson Soloist used, yesterday. MUCH better guitar.
That Wolfgang was a $1000 hot mess, TWICE.
