EVH's bandmaster

So what’s the deal with the external cab out? I suppose it is a parallel of the 4 ohm out for the internal 2x12, so it’s basically like the Zinky Tonemaster trick of 4 ohm out to 16 ohm cab?

My little Orange loves to be dimed with the 8 ohm out into a 16 ohm speaker in half power mode. Lets you open up the pre which would be nasty at matched impedance but yields a more open/raw vibe.

It’s a switching Jack, you’re supposed to use the primary one first, then the secondary after, of course EVH would ignore the “rules”.

Its time to do this damn thing...

Cool article.

The Int jack shorts to ground when unplugged. The Ext jack doesn't have any shorting/switching but is parallel to the Int jack. So using just the Ext jack the output transformer is connected to ground but enough signal gets thru to make sound.

I tried it with a bassman head years ago, it's like playing an amp that has a fraction of a watt. You can crank it up until it distorts. Eddie talked about that bandmaster in interviews many years ago, but I've never seen one pic of the amp itself.

Blonde bandmasters with the presence control are cool amps, long wanted one and this just makes the gas worse.

Also thinking that the main speaker switching jack must have a decent amount of resistance in order to hear anything from a speaker plugged into the ext jack. Not sure I want to try this on my 60 fender brown super.

A 63 is 3-4k now. Ed used one that probably cost him 150 bucks lol
