Explorer Body paint is done...

As I mentioned earlier, I gave up on painting the body for my project. The paint kept splitting for reasons I don't understand and I had to get on to other things (like my amp!), so I sent it to Marty Bell to finish. Looks killer!:

Steve, seeing as your a Charvel guy, I've been wondering. Do the new Charvel necks have the same profile as the old ones? I have one that I bought new in 1983 that is on a partscaster of mine that is my all-time favorite neck. Can the new Charvel necks hang with the old ones?

BTW- that zebra explorer looks killer

Looks great! Btw, I eventually want to have Marty do a Hamer Blitz like the one Mick has in my Avatar. I had one before but it was in really bad shape, and I figured I would be better off looking for another. I spoke to Marty at the time and he was super nice. His prices were really reasonable too.
 
That turned out very nice! Any Idea what he charges for a single color body?

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about Charvel guitars is that there was a standard neck profile...there wasn't. These guitars were all handmade and the necks vary greatly on them...thick, thin, wide, narrow, flat, finished, oiled, etc. I've been fortunate enough to play well over 100 "vintage" Charvels and they are simply each their own animal. That said, the pointy headstock models are much more consistent than the older stratheads although they do vary as well.

As for the new ones, I think they're great...especially now that they seem to have corrected alot of the QC issues that plagued them early on in their "rebirth". Even the production model necks are very nice once you work them over.

My next appearance at Squid Music will be in full 80s metal regalia, wielding this guitar and my production prototype of the Henning amp... :lol: :LOL: :rock:
