Have you played a Wilde Bill Lawrence L500XL versus a Bill Lawrence USA L500XL? I have a Wilde Bill and Becky L500XL because that was the so called original and I just ordered a Bill Lawrence USA L500XL to compare.

On the Rat, I have an 80's Woodcutter and find it real bright with the tone knob at noon. Makes sense that Nuno offsets those frequencies with the tone knobs on the amp. I love how percussive his attack is.

Yeah... I was never a huge Nuno fan really but I happened to watch the 2009 take us alive show and his tone really got my attention, it was one of the best live tones I had heard in a really long time, crunchy, prescussive, nice chirp on the high notes and pinched harmonics, it's an awesome rock tone for sure. I decided to build one more guitar Nuno style and I want to get it right first time out if I can.

I never paid much attention but look how he has the EQ set on the amp. My god... Bass cranked at 7, Presence Middle and Treble at about 1. Man that tells you how bright the Bill Lawrence pickup is. With all the mids and high rolled and Nuno still has a great biting high end presence with greenbacks no less.

That's probably why I hated the L500L I had in the 80's it was thin an shrill compared to my duncans with the same amp EQ... Yep mystery solved 25 years later!

That stood out to me as well, I had forgotten how much he scoops those mids as well which is a huge part of his sound too.

As for the being endorsed by Randall, I don't understand why he didn't just offer that to Marshall if he was going to play them anyway. That said, most of the demos I have heard of the NBK amp sound really good to my ears. Built in RAT pedal circuit. It is a good sounding amp. I'd grab one if it were cheap. It does his tone with the right setting and pups. It won't play itself though so you need to also have the hands.

This thread inspired me to learn Get the Funk Out and there is a video of Nuno teaching it. I noticed that he often mutes all the other strings and 'strums' single notes a lot (hitting several adjacent strings that are muted). That probably affects his attack too.

Good point. Also, is Extreme and Nuno REALLY that popular? Not really. Guitar nerds love him but everyone else could careless what they were using.

i agree with brian may that nuno's solos on that album where so fiery and full of heart, but man the live tone nuno gets on the video after brian's interview is epic rock fury! the chirp on his single notes is wild! anybody know what he was using on tour during this period? he has his signature randall amps behind him but? reminds me of why i love a cameron amp. ]

Funny you should mention the pick chirping. When I was picking Cameron’s brain while modding my JCA20, he mentioned tone and feel along with how the pick attack (chirping) sound. I was trying to dial in a tone that also sounded musical and he helped so that the chirp sounded musical too. So many amp gurus miss the sum of the entire sound.

Same guitar, same pickups, same minimalist tone/amp approach and injected with extra gobs of fun and super positive energy Think Nuno's onto something?

Food for thought when i get into that "better test my tubes/my cables aren't good enough/my setup isn't 10k worth of the latest greatest" mode.

That solo is total savage delivery as usual with him.

I'm also not sure why, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Brian May sing praise of The Shreds, and I love it!!

Both Brian and Nuno rank highly in my world of guitarists and tone, so this was a lovely Wednesday afternoon treat.
