Fat Switch

A question for you guys with the Friedman fat switch mod. Is there a really noticable difference when switching it on? Does the amp loose any tightness? I wonder why Dave decided to just use a switch instead of a pot so the amount of low end can be varied?

Paul...the FAT switch,when activated,thickens the tone "equally" across "all" spectrums from bass to mids to highs.there is a definate noticeable difference,but it's not a huge change either.the FAT switch is different than,say,a DEPTH knob which adds/removes only low-end girth to the amp's tone...maybe Dave can step in and explain,in more technical terms,what the FAT switch actually does in the circuit.

It adds low end in the preamp section. By doing this everything reacts a little different. Its great with teles or strats or really anything just depending on the tone you are looking for. Dave

That sounds about right, what i like about it also is with the switch the amp still keeps its killer tone.

Also Dave can make it a variable switch as well. I think mine has 4 clicks to it and I usually play it in the first position. I would go this route because his mods are nice without a ton of bass so one click is all I need for some of the metal stuff I have found.

Problem is, I already have the Cameron Punch mod on the Metro head I Just sent Dave so I'm not sure I'd need the Fat switch too?

Hey, Lp Freak, what does the Cameron Punch mod do? You better hang onto that amp! I don't see any more amps getting a Mark C. Punch mod installed anytime soon.... What a world.... what a world.....

The punch mod is pretty much a depth. It adds low end girth. I installed it, but it's wired the same way Mark does it.

I had the Cameron Bass mod on my JMP when I sent to Dave and he undid it and did his FAT switch. It is different circuit wise from what I see and sounds nice and beefy.

There's definitely a difference and I would recommend getting every mod. It just gives you more variety and every setting/mod sounds great. Personally, I'm loving the BE with gain maxed and C45/Fat switches engaged.

Yeah I love the C45, dont use it all the time but makes for a nice change up now and then.

Me too! That is such a great, fat tone.... Shit, now I gotta have a Fat switch? I may need one since I mainly play a strat with SSH setup..... OK, one more trip up to Dave's shop coming up!
