I'd also throw Big Wreck in there, loved the tones on their first record
That first Big Wreck CD was great, just wish the compression was less in the mastering, it ruins music for me.

I'd pick STP's Purple disc as my favorite for 90's rock guitar tone.

stoner witch, stag and bootlegs from that era sound really really good. even Bullhead and houdini. Fuck, they all sound awesome.
in fact I PREFER the 90s tone to what ever tube amps he runs now live anyway, i guess he just hires them. I saw him with marshall DSLs, but from vids I've seen he's been on SLP, 800s etc. Not a fan of the guitar tone on ASA at all.

I saw them open up for Tool back in the mid 90's and they had the worst guitar tone I've ever heard. They were practically booed off the stage...

Everything AiC, EVH on Balance, a small Cdn band called JAR, Weezer Blue album, Mustaine on Countdown..., Manson Antichrist, Ministry FilthPig, Slash on Illusion I&II, Deftones, In Flames,

Cool to see so many mentions of Adams tone.

You can count me as a fan.

Smashing Pumpkins
Metallica
Soundgarden
STP
AIC
Helmet
Tool
APC
Deftones
Toadies
Pushmonkey
Jesus Lizard
White Zombie
Pantera
Incubus
System Of A Down
Fear Factory
Strapping Young Lad
Chimera
Vision Of Disorder
Sick Of It All
Our Lady Peace
Faith No More
Hum
Therapy?

all I got off the top of my head

Definitely some of the seattle regulars already mentioned.
I really think Soundgarden's tone on Loud Love was their best guitar tone.
Helmet on Betty
Prong - Cleansing
At The Gates and a lot of other Scandinavian bands were really starting to do the down tuned but tight, articulate thing in the early/mid 90's. Great tones on Slaughter of the Soul.

Entombed on Wolverine blues and the Hollowman EP as well as Uprising for a more raw deal.

It might be the songs more than the tone but I really like the guitars on Sepultura - Roots. Kind of raggedy but different for the time and very heavy.

Zombie's first 2 solo CD's had great tones.

cos half of tool fans are retarded, why would they boo the melvins off stage?
same thing happened here when a local good punk band opened for tool.

Yes, Kyuss too. Josh has an awesome and unique sound, probably nothing I would use myself but it just works perfectly for him. I dusted off my copy of Rated R the other day, fucking great album.

The Melvin's were horrible and deserved it IMO. It sounded like they played the same song for 45 minutes with no breaks...

Love the mids to his sound. The newest QOTSA is not up to the tone standards of kyuss/early QOTSA imo.

and as for the melvins... did they play one of their 'noise' gigs?

Yes the latest QOTSA stuff is sub par all around, I think it's just a case of too many line up changes, they lost the magic. They need to bring Nick back on bass.

definitely! I'm not even sure why he was removed, I heard it was because he was violent against women? Could be completely wrong there though.
