A couple that fly into my mind are King Diamond's "Abigail." What a fucking menacing, grinding growl those amps had. :worship: Just wish they were louder in the mix. Also, Accept's "Balls to the Wall." Jesus tap dancing Christ was that a juicy sound or what? :worship: That mid-range rips like a circular saw through wet plywood! I wonder if those were Jose modded Marshalls? Dokken's "Tooth and Nail" also deserves an honorable mention. Those A-D-A-D-G chords in the title track just make your face slide right off like when the Arc was opened in "Indiana Jones!" What guitar sounds make you cry like a schoolgirl?

i think they were lee jackson. the king diamond stuff and george lynch. accept i'm not sure.

My fave tones are Cantrell with songs like Would and Dam That River. I've heard that's Bogner, but could be modded Marshall.

Does Lee Jackson still mod Marshalls?

Not sure if he still does, but he was living in Austin last year. Lived here for a while in the 90's and early 00's then moved away but came back a few years ago. I got to know him fairly well. Last time I talked to him he was telling me about an amp line that he was trying to produce. He said he had investors and everything but I haven't heard anything since and that was a few years ago. :dunno:

Great Thread!  I agree with the original post, but would say Under Lock and Key over Tooth. Um.....also THE DARK FUCKIN SAGA! that album's tone is beyond awesome!!!!

Not necessarily metal..

1. That short 30 second riff on Van Halen's Women and Children First. I think it was called "growth" in earlier demos.

2. Skid Row's Monkey Business (volume swell after the intro). CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH

I think a bunch of my favorite metal guitar sounds were from dimebag on cowboys from hell. I think all of those songs are great and there's plenty of brutality and great guitar playing. You've got The sleep, cemetary gates, domination, heresy, psycho holiday, shedding skin so on and so forth.
RIP Dime

I also love "U.L.A.K.'s" sound. More warmth and smoothness to it. I just love that savage grind that he had on "T.A.N." That sound was just downright rude! :worship: As if the amp was saying,"fall to your knees pussy or I shall smite thee!

Yeah, Dime had some vicious tones alright. I prefer Vulgar's sound to Cowboy's. I thought it was warmer and less "transistor" sounding. But I also love "Cowboy's." That sounded pretty gay. Let me re-phrase that. Ah fuck it, you know what I meant!

Not really metal, but one of my favorite electric guitar sounds ever.

Kitchen Ware & Candy Bars by STP. When the electric guitar comes in, WOW. I'd kill to have that sound at home.

Also, Territorial Pissings by Nirvana. What a weird and cool sound. Super overdriven, really trebly.

Those are my favorite "weird" tones I guess.

Priest... The British Steel album I think deserves a nod for some tasty metal tones.

My taste exactly  Cantrell recently stated that the heart of the Facelift and Dirt tone is modded Marshall.

I also LOVE the tones on Mindcrime and the more polished sounding Empire (Queensryche of course)

Gojira- The Way of All Flesh
Nevermore- Dead Heart in a Dead World
Killswitch Engage- The End of Heartache

King diamond-sleepless nights

Whitesnake-still of the night

Ozzy osbourne-fire in the sky

My 3 favourite metal guitar tones!!

The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor
Arch Enemy - Anthems of Rebellion

Ironically, all three albums were pretty much done with the same amp.
