So I'm looking to find something reasonable that is a nice mic for my Diezel rig. I am very new to the world of mic'ing etc. Ive tried a few already (sm57) and didn't like them. I believe at a show I used a wide diaphragm style mic that may have been an akg or something. However, I liked it a lot.
Let me know what you all may recommend in the world of mics at around $200 or less
Thanks!!

Sm57 and an audio technica AT8141 ribbon. Also like the ribbon paired with an AT4040, which I prefer for higher gain stuff.

Edit: didn't see the $200 price range remark. I'd suggest the sennheiser e609 silver. Better than an sm57 by itself. Also look at the audio technica AE3000 side address mic. Great on guitar cabs. When I saw Brian Setzer a few years ago he had an e609 and an AE3000 on his cab, and he had really great tone.

Sennheiser E906 or, if you don't want the filters, Sennhesier E609

E906, MD421 II (can be found well under $200 used - I just picked one up for $150 and am blown away....my old sm57 is back in its case and on the shelf now, lol)

One of these is a Audix i5. I don't remember which, but they both sound great. (Just the playing that sucks)

the new telefunkin m80 is getting great reviews for guitar. at around $240.

I used the Audix i5 on the last lot of recording i did, and was totally blown away with how good it was. In the same session we tried MD421, SM57 and a Sennheiser E906. The Audix stood head and shoulders above them all.

Don't laugh too hard, but I've always had great results with a Shure SM58. I know that it's a vocal mic, but it works better for me than anything else I've tried. When we go into the studio, I let them do whatever, because the guy knows that he's doing... but when I'm doing stuff at the house, I always end up with my 58.

I use an SM57 on one side and an EV N/D468 on the other. I really like the EV mic. Its under $200 too. n-d468-dynamic-supercardioid-instrument-microphone">https://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audi ... microphone</a>

My fave mic is the Beta 57...along with the MD421. I also like the PR30 which I alternate with the B57.

Hated the E609 and also don't find much use in the I5 (they work well for snare though).

I'm in the same boat.. I'm not in love with my 57. Seems to me it shines when combined with another microphone though. Right now the e906 is tops on my list and the 421 is of interest too.

I installed a 609 inside my 4-12 road case because it was the only mic I could find with a small enough profile to do it with.
I mounted a jack on the back of the case....I love it because Im not tripping over mic stands anymore and every sound guy ive come across since doing this has loved me for it, they just plug a mic cord into the jack on the back of my case and they are done!

Thanks for all the input!
I bought a sennheiser e609 that I'm gonna try out on your recommendations guys. Hopefully one is enough for mic'ing live. ? If not I can try something else also. .

Looks like I'm late, I was going to say E906, I love it. (I find SM 57s' a little harsh). 609 is the same without the frequency roll off selector, but I guess you know that. :)

I just use an sm57 mixed with an e609. They are both cheap.

BTW - I've heard 98 Rock mention Ashes Remain a few times in the past week.
