So there's a bit of debate as to what the best settings for boosting a high gain amp is. For me, I'm using a Maxon OD 808 and having drive 0, tone at noon, and level at full. What do you guys like?

Depends on the amp really.

With my 5150 I basically do what you're describing with my Maxon OD808. I've had a lot if amps work really well with my Klon though. I run that (when using it as a boost) with my gain at 0 treble at noonish and the output at elevenish.

Using my TS9 I have the Drive at 9:00, Tone at 10:30, and Level at 5:00 which is dimed...

Drive at 0, tone at 11:00, level at 3:00 and i use this setting for boosting my uber, herbert, rectos and amps like that.

When i play my marshall 2555 i use the drive at 11:00 and the level at 1:00

I prefer the Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive. Level @ 12 o'clock--Gain @ 0-- Tone @ 12 o'clock. I have been using a Keeley modded unit, but had a older stock stock model that worked with similar results. The Keeley works well for other applications as well.

I have the TS 808.

Gain 0, Level about 60% and Tone about 30%

Depends on the pedal and the amp. On my BB+ I use the blue channel as a clean boost, with the gain at 8:00, volume at 10:00.(lots of output in that pedal!)
With a 808 style pedal I usually do something like gain around 8:00 and output around noon. Tone to taste.

I don't like the usual gain at 0, output maxed settings. Never sounds good to me.

This is the real answer. Each amp, pedal, guitar, player is going to sound different.

I dont like maxing out level at all. I dont need to do that with my amp. It has plenty of power.

Its all subjective and a matter of taste, also if you play in a band.

Its not going to sound the same with the band vs playing on your own.

My favorite overdrive that I have is a TS-9 modded to 808 specs. I used to put gain at 0, tone at noon, and level at max, but I realized that it was too much. Now I run drive at 0, tone at 9 o'clock and level at 1 or 2 o'clock. That's all the boost I really. Tightens things up nicely.

Been playing around a bit with my new OD 808. I'm now starting to like tone and drive at 11 and balance at 3. Lowering the balance a bit brings down the mids the pedal adds to the mix, preserving the Uberschall's natural tonality while keeping the low end in check. Really liking this pedal a lot more than my TS9.
