What are your favorite power tubes with the VX? I'm currently using TS 6550's with my Mod50.

Yellow Jacket triode's......EL84's. Sounds amazing.

I'm sure the Yellow Jackets sound awesome but that wouldn't be enough power for the gigs I do. I've tried TS6550's and TS5881's with the VX. They both sound great but I'm curious if EL34's would sound better. I like the TS5881's a little better than the TS6550's with the VX that I used to own. I have another one on the way so I'll see if I still feel the same way.

Yeah, you probably need the headroom for your stuff. About the only way to determine it is to grab some 34's and give 'em a try!!! May be too mid forward?? Just not sure.

I would definitely agree with that. I love my VX into the EL34 side of my RT2/50, but sometimes it's definitely too mid forward, so I'll switch to the 6L6 side depending on the song.Buckeyedog":3cifb4sv said:

In the Mod 50, TS 5881s sound the best to me with the VX.
In the M4/RT250 rig, I run GTE34L on Ch1 and Sovtek 5881 on Ch2 running the poweramp in stereo. This rig just kills with the VX, moreso than the Mod 50, regardless of tubes. I've run the VX with EL84, but to be honest, I didn't like the overall result. If you want the most vox-like sound out the VX, you need a 2x12 with the correct speakers.
