John Sykes' solo at 2:44 is simultaneously one of my favorite tones, solos, and vibratos:

That would have been my answer 15 years ago

John Norum 'Face the Truth' Album

I agree on this one and would like to add the "Play Yard Blues" album from John as well

The Who Live at Leeds is the sound I try to copy with most amps when I first try them. Too many good sounds to pick a favorite.

Not a recorded tone but seeing Iommi around '95, his tone was unreal. Huge/evil beyond description.

Still think about it.

Overall (i.e. clean, rhythm, & lead tones) would be John Petrucci's tones on Dream Theater's "Awake" album:

Favorite single lead tone would be Marco Sfogli's on the song "Andromeda":

Motorhead stage fright
Megadeth youthanasia
SRV live at the elmocambo

forgot about mssrs Gorham and Robbo.......in my mind the best lead tones I can relate to.
I'll start with Sir Scott

mike landau never disappoints.

driving up to northern montana i cranked VH I in it's entirety, and man what a tone--must be played LOUD to appreciate. my fave of all the VH stuff.

LOVE eric johnson "trail of tears" live from the austin city limits CD.

ACDC-Highway to Hell. Always have loved the into.
Big Wreck- Ladylike. Nice and dirty
Joe Bonamassa- Stop. Great LP tone
Paul Gilbert- Bivalve Blues. Killer

This is certainly up there.
fuck yeah. Love me some Clutch.

A lot of VH love in this thread (for good reason obviously)
I'm a WaCF guy, though. Everybody Wants Some is just this huge wall of sound. Damn

Always forget about this guy's sound. Might be my favorite guitar player ever.

John Sykes for best overall tone, Rich Ward has great tone as well, and gotta give Eddie props the man has great tone!

I don't know about best tone, but I personally think Boston's debut is the best produced album ever.
