and totally unrelated (except for the phase 90 connection) but this guy just kills me with this tune--my favorite new artist/music/song of 2011:

Mark is awesome and so is this video of the one man band! Going up on my FB
Gainy!

I've always wanted to hear you and mark collaborate on a few tunes and I'd love curt and ant in there as well!
And howbout James Lugo on vox!

That would truly OWN the face punching universe of forum jam!

Hey Pat,

That clip of your PM after Vic modded it sounds killer!!! if I may so bold, what all did he do, and what kind of tubes did he put in the preamp other than 12ax7s? Great tone!

hey OB
here's the link you were asking about
http://mojaveampworks.com/amplifiers/sidewinder-hg/

i think blues is a great player and has done tons of nice clips with the mojaves,

but there is an element of his recordings that seems too mastered/polished where you don't hear the raw thing these amps have on his clips, like he's high passing/compressing too much life out of it.

but i like this clean plexi 45 one he did which captures the bounce of it-it is a very addicting amp to play:

holy lick! That guy has more soul, vibe, and vocal statement than the majority of the R/B singer today! Love it!
Glad you mark and ejecta are diggin this guy too
Everyone I personally show this to are instantly fans

the guy is skilled with the modern toys and beat box groove but has the 70s soul vocal and melody nailed DOWN

I'm really glad Pat posted this guy. I got both of his CD's and they are in my daily rotation..... great great stuff!

I was at the Mojave site recently, and I noticed the Peacemaker is no longer offered...did the Dirty Boy just replace it outright?

There was a pretty good metal band in Hawaii in the late 90s/early 2000 or so but can't remember their name. Pretty heavy sounding.

I played a few shows at the Pink Cadillac downtown (you guys remember that place?). We did one show at that bar that had the live monkey's in a glass "cage" behind the bartender. That was really strange. :) I remember they used to have alot of shows at Gussie Lamour's as well in the 90's. I think Crue even played there.

I miss jamming with Zach and Carlos at Hot Licks.

Used to go to Pink Cadillac, Wave, and Jazz Cellar a lot back in the day...

The only bar with monkeys I remember was in Pearl City....

No, this place was was on the road close to Ala Moana. It sat somewhere between the Hard Rock and Tower Records. This was around the 2000-2003 timeframe.

The Pink Cadillac is a pub of some type now. I haven't been in there since they changed it. I do remember the wave though. :)

ho bah kapiolani boulevard?

hawaii 80s metal stories--

i forget which tour ozzy was bald...bark at the moon?
he got came in hammered and promptly got kicked out of the wave in a half pair of pants, no shirt...fat man in bibadees..wasted. crawling around on the ground screaming at the bouncers.
jake e lee came to the jazz cellar the next night and i talked him and the house band into jamming "shot in the dark" and "bark at the moon" but the gtr player who was my buddy played a floyd strat as his #1 and jake was hesitant...he didn't trust those things...i think he said something like "i always break a string and then it's OVER!" ...great minds think alike... :D and lo and behold halfway into the first tune POP goes the weasel...he stops the song looking at me and my friend like "SEE!" and grabs another back up strat and kills it! signed a cocktail nappy for me--what a nice guy he was!

a girl i knew that was a regular at the jazz cellar was hitting on rob halford and couldn't figure out why he wasn't responding... she was very pretty...until he walked out with a dude.

me and my friend partied with anders and jens johannsen when they came to town with yngwie...they jammed deep purple tunes with the house band until anders broke the snare head, and they carved their initials in my friend's car with his keys

the next night yngwie and his girlfriend amber who i think is now his wife came in and i was freaking! they were super nice and joined me and my buddy at our table, and i was basically a shivering school girl in the presence of my biggest idol at that time!
i asked him-scratch that-- BEGGED him to jam with the house band but he claimed he was way too hammered. so bought him a beer, chatted with them for about 20 minutes, he signed a cocktail napkin for me and left, forgetting his classic tinted sunglasses at our table which he returned for.

portlock party, local cover band is jamming and the gtr player took lessons from marty--in walks marty...commandeers guitar from player without much asking, and overplays the next 3 songs. i believe he self-proclaimed he was the best guitarist in the world back in those days! maybe not, but boy was he confident!

that's all i got.

I have a few tweaks left to make to your old PM, but it was sounding killer when I put her on the shelf. I may go a little bit back towards the bray specs with the exception of swapping out the PPIMV for a LarMar, but I had her biased hot at 90v, the PPIMValmost all the way up, straight in, 4x12 with GBs and it was ripping...like FW on steroids; super loud but great tone

Still diggin the Paul? in hind sight, I should've put my old 70's Super D in it for you. It's yours if you want it.

Was called blue tropix or something. I remember the monkey bar in pc though. Pearl City Tavern.

The place I can't remember is the one off mccully as you crossed the bridge over the ala wai canal to the right
sorta where the OLD KC waffle hot dog used to be before it moved to Kaimuki

now there's an old school trivia tidbit for you!

I remember watching Sacred Rite at the Queen Theater kick ass. Man I miss the 80's... those were the days.
i grew up within walking distance of queen theater and saw many a cool surf movie there before it became a porno house
saw the ill fated megadeth/aaronsrod show there when the band broke up

unfortunately i'd already moved to cali before SR became the house band for rocky horror and did shows at queen

it was amazing how metal oahu was back in the day..great players!

did you by chance see marty friedman at the coconut grove with "hawaii" back in the day?
classic metal moment..he's in the audience with a 100 foot cable, spinning on his back at the foot of my table soloing with his eyes closed, when his cord comes out of one of his THREE mxr distortion boxes, instant wall of ground noise, scampering back to the stage dejected to try to fix the tangled mess.

Wow, this is pretty awesome that we have some Hawaii people on here. The Queen Theatre was a little before my time but I did catch SR and Rex Havok at the Coconut Grove in like 81 or 82...freaking awesome show. I remember SR did some stuff off Fire Down Under that blew me away in addition to their originals, also saw them open for Triumph. I worked at Hot Licks for a little while back in 91.

Marty also played at my highschool. Just him, the bass player and drummer...no vocals at all....all instrumental

Did any of you guys go Paul Gilbert seminar that Music Mac did around 88? A good friend of mine had gotten to know Paul pretty well from GIT so we hung out with him while he was here. We took him around to sample the local grinds too; just a very cool down to earth guy. When we took him to the airport he discovered he had lost his ticket so he had to borrow some money from my friend to get a new ticket!

Didn't it begin with an "S"? Scully's? something... it was all black and white inside.
Like, across the street and one block Diamond Head from the Wave, right?
I remember the commercial for it on tv. It had the house band playing "Aint Talkin' Bout Love"

Rex Havoc and Sacred Rite at Coconut Grove. How Metal......
