I have decided to get a tele. I need a single cool guitar as I have become overly enamored with fuzz! LOL! Trying to keep it around $1500 and both these guitars come in at that range.

Here are the culprits.

The Fender:

The G&L:

I am also considering this guy which is NOT a tele...

The Suhr Classic T Pro is also nice but I don't think I can score one at my set price. I see them used and there is one in the RT classifieds. I lean most toward the G&L though.

Any input is appreciated.

Go for the American Deluxe Tele. It's a whole different beast than a standard American Tele. The tummy cut and rounded neck heel make it feel like an actual guitar rather than a block of wood. The bridge pickup is fantastic sounding, IMO, and the S-1 pickup switch actually changes the tone quite a bit in the middle position. Locking tuners standard are a nice plus too. My only complaints with them is the lack of finish choices and I thought the neck pickup is a bit to thin sounding and probably needs replacing long term. The pearl white with the tortoise shell pickguard is classic look. If you look used, older models (pre 2009 I think) lose the S-1 switching and locking tuners but are otherwise the same.

I was in the exact same spot last year, $1,500 limit. I bought that same AM deluxe tele with a maple neck. The AM deluxe tele is smoking hot guitar very pleased with it. I also have an Suhr Classic Antique S that I bought after the tele. The AM deluxe is dead quite. Suhr's SSCII is just as amazingly quite. After having both, I do wish I would have waited for a Suhr T to pop up in my price range. It's just a little bit nicer everywhere. I love the stainless frets too. I'm a Suhr guy.

Everybody needs a Tele. Fenders AM deluxe modern C neck feels kinda shreddy thin and I love the 10"-14" radius. Suhr will have better choices for necks if you need thicker, different shapes and fret radius, G & L should too. Fender will be routed for Hums in the neck and middle. Never owned a G & L so I can't really speak first hand of them but they play nice in the store. My vote goes to Fender.

I would pick the Fender over G & L.

Thanks! I hear a lot of good around the Am Deluxe. So if a Suhr T comes up you'd still go with that? I initially wanted one and that is what started my Tele GAS.

The Am deluxe has a ton of tones. It's a beast. I got a great deal on a new one, otherwise I would of flipped it and waited for a Suhr. I'd steer anyone looking for a Tele toward the Am deluxe. If you have the cash get a Suhr.

Definitely going to head to GC to try a few out. Wish they stocked G&L.

Cool! I love the G&L's. Played a fill in gig recently and the other guitar player used a G&L Strat. It was old and had been used on probably 1,000 gigs and it sounded incredible. Serious character. It's the only guitar he'll use. That one. I'm not sure he even has another guitar. He found the perfect guitar and is not interested in anything else!
Congrats!

Thanks! It is awesome. Got to use it at practice last night through the Kemper rig and honestly the Kemper sounded amazing with single coils.

Shhh, don't tell anybody, but a good player can make just about anything sound good.
