been tempted recently by strats again,

used market of course,as the price new is too much for me,

as there have been quite a few models over the years (different pickups/S1 system etc etc..)

is there anything i should look out for? opinions of owners on here?

I like the modern C shape necks, 22 frets i think would be more desireable for me, i'm still on the fence whether i want a HSS configuration or not

thanks

The newer ones (I believe 2010 and 2011) with the n3 pickups were really nice whenever i played them. I havnt't seen any of them used though :(

yeah i played through a 2010 model today, felt really nice, the price tag did not though lol

i think i'll have to keep my eyes out and see

how's about HSS against the 3 single coils, particularly in the S1 switching guitars, is there any point still in getting a humbucker in the bridge considering i have other guitars for that stuff?

some people say the strat with the HSS is the best config. available for versatility....I have an HSS and you can split the HB..............I prefer the S/S/S config..... looks better, classier and I like the tones I get.

that's what i'm thinking, i have other humbucker based guitars that can do that better anyway, i'm not necessarily looking for supremo versatility

sweet neck tone ;) and the other things a strat has to offer

I have an '07 deluxe with the S1 switching.
My favorite guitar but I do not like or use the S1 switching. Mine is the SSH config and I like it better than my SSS std strat. The single pup in the bridge seem to have more of a "Quack" to it. Maybe if it didnt share the tone knob with the rhythm pup it would be better. I spend most of my time on the neck and rhythm pups any way.

The Deluxe also has more weight, locking tuners, cut heel and the roller nut, all pluses in my book. :D

It feels like it muddies up when I push the S1 button, nice idea just doesnt work for me.

i think i know what you mean with the S1 button, in clean modes it added some quite nice useable tones but the bridge position with the S1 engaged made for a muddy/fuzzy mess, in the SSS config amdelux strat i tried, the normal mode sounded a lot cleaner and better, although with heavy gain i just felt like attempting yngwie like runs in the shop lol

I tried a USA Tele with the S1 and didnt like it either but that is just me. People must like it if the are selling them. Again could be the music you play and amp that make a difference.

I am in agreement with the other posters in that I never cared for the S-1 switching. I never really found a use for it. I also was never crazy about the SCN pickups. I thought they lacked a bit of the classic Strat tone :dunno:

They are solid guitars though. With the locking tuners, mine stayed in tune very well.

I cant remember why since it was so long ago, but I hated the S-1 switching system. For a strat I am too much of a traditionalist and have to go the 3 single coil route. You can more than likely pick up a used american standard if you look around a little.

I have one and it is GREAT. Really good guitar. Plays well and if you get the HSS, you'll have infinite tuning stability.
