I'm not liking the Fender CS69 pickups that came with my strat and want to upgrade. The Bridge PU is way too bright and piercing, and the Middle and Neck sound Dull with very low output.

I have 2 Neck and Middle Suhr V60LP's in my Tyler which sound amazing, really balanced with a little 'bite'. ( Bare Knuckle VHIII HB in Bridge )

I'd like to try a full set in my strat but want to know just how 'usable' the bridge pickup is before getting them? I've always had trouble with Bridge Single Coils, never been able to get a sound i like haha :-)

Mike,

I actually upgraded my Suhr FL Standards and Classics to CS69's :-) Then I went ahead and bought a Custom Shop '69 Strat since it already has those pickups. I would have to say that the Suhr bridge was definitely brighter, I find the CS69's to actually be on the darker side, that's why I like them so much. Do you have your tone control wired to your bridge?

Wow really? FL Standards would have actually been my first choice overall, I'm really surprised at that. I don't know whether I have a dodgy set of CS69s or what, but there just so dull sounding to my ears. Maybe theres just not enough output in them for me lol. I like the V60LP's because the 'Low Peak' takes away the piercing highs still maintaining a Full sound with plenty of Grit. I was hoping the Bridge pup would be as nice as the Neck/Middle. I havn't tried wiring the Tone to Bridge, its just a standard strat wiring. Thanks for your reply :-)

I love the 69's but I will say I think the pickups that come stock with the 69 CU which i have, may a bit more mojo than if you were to puchase them separately. or maybe something to do with the electronics on those guitars. I would agree that they are low output, but i prefer that and the bridge brightness can be rolled off with tone controls if wired, like Barzini said. The other vintage Fender PU's I really like is the fat 50's CS. a bit more aggressive.

If that's the guitar you loaned me for last week's Tater show than I gotta say none of my Suhr stuff sounded like this guitar. Actually that particular guitar is likely my fave new Strat I played...period.
