Fender experts…help me identify this Tele

Hey All.

One of my neighbor kids was recently gifted this Tele. Says it is made in Japan, so I would guess it is a decent guitar, but I know next to nothing about Tele’s.

It has some scratchy pots and needs a good setup, but I am hoping someone can tell me what he has.

Yeah, thats a sweet guitar.
Nice flame in the neck, and looks like flame veneer on the body too.
I think they call these 3 pickup tele's Nashville tele's, but not sure. The reversed control plate screems "Nashville" to me lol!
And I think the neck and middle pu's are strat type pu's.
Lucky kid to get that as a gift. Thats pretty cool

Forgot to add: just about everything Fender "Made in Japan " is extremely high quality and sought after.
Hell, I've seen Squire MIJ stuff from the 80's and early 90's go for over $1k.

Does it have the Hamburgler on the back of the neck? Mine did.

That's a 90s MIJ, they tend to be vintage spec reissues. Quality can vary from good-to-great, what does it say in the neck pocket of the body?

It should have some numbers that indicate the year it's a reissue of (eg. T51) and another number after a hyphen that indicates its price point (hence the good-to-great comment).

Even if it's the cheapest one they made it likely still has excellent woodworking and just needs new electronics.

Haven’t pulled the neck. Will see if we can do that in the near future.

It is photo flame so depending on where the film was when applied some had the Hamburgler sone didn't. It's hilarious. Mine was a great guitar but I sold it for 3x what I paid as it was hard times in the machinist trade back then so I flipped a lot of gear I wish I could have kept.
