Am looking seriously at this guitar because I am thinking of buying a guitar with a strat body, fixed bridge, and preferably in mahogany. This one fits the bill, please tell me about it good folks. Is it heavy? worth the $? Cheers!

I had two of the JR Teles, and they were really nice. Not terribly heavy, but not fly-weight either. I don't know that they're worth the new $$$, but I got pretty good deals on mine, so I thought they were definitely worth what I paid.

Haven't tried the strat. I too had a white JR tele, sounded good but the fret edges were razor sharp, I couldn't get them smoothed out so I sold it. The JR Jag is really nice.

Now that you mention it, the frets ends were sharp on my white one too. I wasn't impressed by the thickness of the ebony board either.

The black one (maple board) was pretty good though.

The JR Tele is made in Mexico, the JR Jag and Strat are USA made. I have a JR Jag and it's awesome. Basically the same specs as the strat.

Cool guitars but, for those specs I'd probably go Warmoth body and USACG neck for a bit more tweakability on the specs as I am picky.

Oh really? I didn't know that...

There's a few listings on Reverb where they try and ask for a higher than usual price for their Mexican made one's and try not to mention where they're made.

Thanks for chiming in guys. So I spotted one, black with ebony board, at 1.5 hour drive from my place. Went there yesterday and tried the thing. Was hoping to come home with a new date. I liked the sound, and the neck is crazy fast, not too thin, not too thick, nice in between. Some of you mention the sharp fret ends, that was why I did not bring it with me :/ They are not so cheap here in Europe and I think for such money one should not need to have to take it to a luthier to dress the frets. The store guys said they could not fix that 'cause Fender does not pay for the fret job... The guitar felt quite uncomfortable and cheap in that department. Will keep my eyes open for second hand ones or for another new that I could try. Maybe the sharp frets aren't the rule with these guitars?
