The rest of the stuff Zinky and Paul Rivera made.

Or for that matter, get a Rivera...awesome clean channel and various flavors of gain, depending on what amp you get!

Or get a Zinky/Supro. Anyone need some RCA 12AX7's? I got like 6 of em.

ALSO:

The Mofo is one of the neatest amps ever. So simple, 3 12AX7's, two power tubes. Can do the SLO thing with Sovtek 5881's, the Fender/Bogner hot rod thing with 6L6GC's, or the Marshall/Bogner thing with EL34's.

It sounds so damned good I can't believe I own it!

Fender Tweed Bassman LTD. Hard to beat that good old bassman....

The second best, and arguably the very best, amp make by Fender is the Deluxe Reverb. Tons of great music made with those.

I've been looking at Fender amps lately too, and I have to agree with you here - the Deluxe Reverb (original or RI) seems to be where it's at (judging by clips and videos alone). My only concern would be it's ability to hold a semi-clean tone at band-level volume. Seems everyone says it breaks up around 4, which is probably decently loud at that point, but it's hard to say having never played one. There are some good vids out there, though.

PGS.com video demo of the RI:

Another vid hitting the RI with a Tube Screamer about half-way through:

And finally with an LP:

an old blackface vibrolux with good speakers

The Vibrolux is awesome. I always love practicing at my drummer's place because a friend of his from his old band has one that he left there since they stopped playing. I always jam on it when I'm there. It's a 70's silverface and it just sounds great

any of the vintage stuff, say 1955-1967, reissues included. take your pick.

So it sounds like you are in the reissue >> silverface camp? Silverfaces came out in late '67.

I would rather have a silverface than a reissue.

From the vintage fender guys on the plexi palace the vibroking doesn't really get much love. I would like to try one out if I can find one....

what's the dif. between the silverface/brownface/blackface ?

tonal differences?

In general here are the differences:

Tweed - Lots of mids, more breakup
Brown/Blonde - Less mids, medium breakup. Falls in between Tweed and Blackface
Blackface - Scooped mids, less breakup, what most people think of when they think of a clean fender sound
Silverface - Similar to Blackface, later models were tweaked to have more clean headroom and master volume. In some cases they can be modded to blackface specs (usually the earlier ones)

Not until the Blackface series did they have onboard reverb on most of the combos, so if want onboard reverb stick with a blackface or silverface with 'reverb' in the name.

I had a Tonemaster (another Zinky design)...a sick amp but it had more of a Marshall vibe than what people think of when they want Fender.
I've owned a '68 Deluxe Reverb (silver face but the DR kept Blackface specs...first channel modded to Tweed) since '94 and absolutely love it...it does everything from classic Fender tones through hard rock raunch, no pedals needed.

My vote is for the Deluxe Reverb '65 RI. I use one every weekend and with a Fulldrive II Mosfet, Keeley Baked TS-9 and a Carbon Copy I can get euphoric cleans and liquid shred tones so easy it almost doesn't seem real.

Amazing tone out of that box. I cannot believe I do not own one. Simply one of the best amps made. Bar none. :inlove:
