Final Cherry Bomb Boards - Now with more cherries!

:lol: :LOL: Well... some peeps like 'em!

I got my (hopefully) final Rev B boards and they'll be going in today. We had to re-route some traces to eliminate some oscillation issues and I made a change to the PLEX channel master to make the clipping circuits more effective. I had already fixed the oscillation issues in the current boards by cutting some traces and making jumpers from shielded cable, but that isn't repeatable, of course, so we re-routed some stuff. I also have tweaked a bunch of components, but that was done on the existing jumped boards, so that won't effect the tone you've heard already...

I thought I'd show them off since my board guys silk-screened my Cherry Bomb logo to the boards as well. Looks pretty cool!

Can't wait to get 'em in and fire it up! The footswitch board is obviously already in and works fine...

Man, I really like the whole design of the boards. Super clean. I like the separate boards for each section and the jumpers used. Kind of reminds me of looking inside my old VTM with the separate circuit boards and ribbon cable connecting them only with much higher grade everything. Though my ribbon cable connected, thin board, light weight traces VTM is still going strong after 25 years without EVER having a single problem. The quality and design of yours should be good for at least 100 years. :lol: :LOL: BTW, I've been seeing several amps using those big rectangular caps. Have those been around long? any benefit over the other kind?

Several traces had to be re-routed (I forgot a few had to be re-routed to make things a little slicker when you use the footswitch (it takes over completely now whereas before you had to set all the switches "on" except for the sat switches for it to work. Now it just works no matter where the individual switches are set - had to fix that one or people would be like WFT!? when they connected the footswitch, and of course, no one reads manuals! :lol: :LOL: ), but I assume you're joking based on the amount of traces in this amp... :D

Those are WIMA polypropylene caps. First the radial mounting and rectangular shape makes it easier to route the PCB, AND, I think they sound pretty sweet...

Dang, that looks awesome! Now goop it! Everywhere. You showed everyone what's in the amp, gave away all your designs and secrets and then after, you goop it. No one will be expecting it. :confused: :lol: :LOL:
 
Are your boards populated by a pick and place machine or are you building them by hand?
 
Agreed, this amp cannot possibly become legendary if you don't goop it up and hide the values of resistors and cap components on the board.. what are you thinking!

.......Maybe a Little Very Neat Blob of Black Goop( to stay in character with the Circuit Board ) that has nothing underneath.

When do we get to hear a Demo - looks like it needs Tubes and a Guitar plugged in and that's it- right ?

Now that I have all my suppliers lined up, all I need to do is test these final boards and if we are all good, I'm going to do a run of 10. I am going to commit to the LA Amp Show, so I'll be there. I'm think of doing some kind of launch event as well....

If these boards are good, I'd say, I'll have the first run done in 3-4 months...

I really like the idea of the screw-clamp connectors as opposed to molex, spade or hard soldering. That's something I haven't seen before in a guitar amp.
 
Got the final boards all in. Just gotta solder in the power tube sockets to the board, but I'm done for the day - will finish tomorrow...

Yeah, they are great. Makes pulling boards a snap - well... except the main one, which still requires me to unsolder all the wires to the power tube sockets... :doh:

Still, would have taken me much longer to swap the boards than the few hours I spent today...
