It is not the same amp as there have been many changes to the design. It is two independent preamps now, however, the preamps are very consistent with what was in the other amp when the main 'modes' are engaged. I'm sure that James could get identical tones out of the amp to what he recorded previously if he wanted to.
Like you mentioned, the cherry-shaped cut-outs are kind of polarizing. Personally, I dig it because it fits the concept. You could easily (I say "easily", because I'm not the one that sweated the details to slave the beast into being ) have another panel style with alternate shapes for ventilation.
Regardless, the attention to detail, craftsmanship and professional approach are more than evident. Hats off to your labor of love. Well done, sir
