after much debate and second guessing going with schecters (which i've owned and loved) or deans (which feel like a schecter mostly) and Ibanez which i have owned but could never bond with.....I have decided to go with what i know. An Explorer. I've also nixed the duncan blackout idea in favor of a WCR "iron Man " for the bridge. Expensive but after much research i have to try it. I am curious however about the comparison between a Gibson and the ESP explorers. sound quality differences, neck profile differences. The ESP's are on e-bay quite a bit but alot more $ used than new explorers. Is there a reason or just paying for the name?

Get a Gibson Explorer and leave the 500T in the bridge. Heaviest and thickest sounding guitars I've ever played.

i definatley want to check out the 500T. never played through one. my old ones had Emg's and real old dimarzio super distortions.

Explorer with 500T :inlove: fucking massive sounding, one of very few passive pick-ups that I will actually use. :D

Gonna just +1 what mike said....I love mine.

I have this terrible guilt feeling when I just want to play nothing but my cheap(er) Mahogany guitars like the Gothic LP and Explorer..but they sound so freaking awesome that my other babies get neglected... :aww:

Explorers FTW. Fatter and thicker than my LP. I did swap out the stock electronics for EMGs though......

Either way, they kill!

Yep, thats Tony.............. I'd LOVE to have that guitar!

sent you a p.m.

I've never liked how explorers looked.

But I LOVE how they feel/play/sound.

The balance on them is just .

I really don't think you can go wrong with an ESP, Edwards, or a Gibson for one of these.

I guess i had never realized until recently that Edwards were ESP made. I had been under the impression they were a new "knock-off" brand charging too much for their stuff.

wow..he didn't keep that long...

You should check out a Hamer. Very underated and their Standard Customs smoke any Gibson or ESP Explorer I've ever owned or tried! Only downside is they're pretty pricey, but you can find good deals if you're patient and don't mind buying used...

BTW, WCR are KILLER pickups! I'm guessing you won't regret it!

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!! he let it go for a best offer of $675!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i called my mom, she was going to let me borrow the money tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! son of a bitch!!!!!!!
with shipping from japan it would be about $1150 for a new one. Are they that good????
a brand new black gibson standard is that much exactly at GC.
and a Dark Korina body , maple neck, ebony board with Ken lawrence headstock from warmoth with all the hardware ready to put together and play would be a grand

Anyone ever try to move the neck strap button on the "top horn" on a Gibbo? As they are done with the Edwardses?

If so, do the guitars balance, or are they neck heavy? (Both Gibbos and Explorers)

you will sell me that explorer......you are in my power ;)

i like my top strap pin behind the neck . seem to be much more balanced. explorers are so well balanced to begin with, give it a shot. ........sorry, you cant try it.....you forgot your selling your axe

and for what its worth, after much e-mailing with Jim at WCR i decided on an Ice Bucker for my bridge.
