I built a 2203 based amp with an extra gain stage and depth knob. It sounds pretty good, but of course, it has the problem knowing that I built it, which makes me always want to tweak it instead of leave it alone

I based it off that Egnater Guitar Player article thats floating around over there. Its basically the stock circuit, with a gain stage in front of it, so it basically the stock sound with more...

Nice! Is it a ton of extra gain? I'll try to dig up that article and see how different it is.

Thanks vlad, still room for improvement and tweaks, still deciding what to do with the other half of the extra preamp tube, not sure if its a good idea to bridge it at the 1st stage   Was just messing around with it. Same with the feedback knob, the sweep is way too large, might raise the NFB resistor and change the pot. Right now its a 1K to 250K sweep, most of it is unusable

Isn't this stuff great!? There's always room for improvement.

For sure! I made changes to the ordering again, shifted everything more to the left. So V0-A is the first stage, V0-B is 2nd, V1 is now the boost. Ended up wiring that stage in parallel instead, and added a 1M gain pot to make it variable since its a shit ton of extra gain to add, before it was just a 1M resistor in place, now its a pot. Much better improvement now. Wiring the first stage in parallel made it sound like shit at first.

Looking forward to playing it Wil. Should I bring a fire extinguisher? :D

It hasn't blown up in my face yet so maybe not   I need a new quad of tubes though, thinking of switching it to a quad of 6550's. Right now I only have a working pair of EL34's, the ones I had in the amp crapped out, maybe because I forgot to pull them when I was drilling the chassis. I pulled the two inner tubes so its running at half power.
