I have had the M4 for a few weeks, but received my first module today, the SL. Im running it with the Randall RT2/50 and all i can say is WOW! This is unreal, i mean i know its supposed to sound good but i had no idea it would sound this good. Im running channel A into the first channel of the randall with 6l6's and its beautiful, kinda a loud clean with a little grit, very "Malcom". Running channel B into second channel of randall with el34's with gain around 3 o'clock and it is the cranked plexi with a little bit extra i have always wanted, very Angus live tone. I dont know if i have ever been so happy with my tone, its so warm and big sounding, sounds that i cannot imagine getting without tubes. The only thing to do now is get more modules, i have a T/T on the way for a clean platform, about to order a SL2X and have to make up my mind on a Metallica'ish type heavy sound, maybe the Erect?

With the T/T, SL, SL2X...you totally need the EG5!!!!! :)

Will an eg5 give me a big chunky rythm for hard rock/metal?

Oh hell yeah. That's exactly what I use it for!!! :)

Agree with Eric on the EG5. And welcome to the madness!!

Don't know about you guys, but my Mod50 w/ EG5 and Mod 2x12 sounds bigger, chunkier, tighter, etc... and more alive than any boogie stack I ever heard. It is the grown-up high gain sound in my mind.

I would consider getting Dave Friedman to mod you some modules, I did not dig the EG5 personally Dave's Brown Eye module is the best of any module I have heard, clean tones you want the twin/deulx eg module, the vox is cool too, the recto is so so unless you have Dave mod it to a SLO or his version of a recto,

Have fun !

I agree to disagree. Nothing against Dave, but I like the EG5 and SL2X WAY more than anything I've heard from Dave.

Just my opinion.

Yeah the sl2x is for sure a purchase in the near future. The only thing I'm really trying to makeup my mind on is a high gain module. Thanks for the opinions guys.

I agree with you Gene. I tried the stuff from Dave, and still prefer the stuff from Egnater by far.

It's the reason why the SL2X came to life.

The EG5 will certainly do that big chunky rhythm...but for a modern tone I preferred the Friedman modded ERect...

Im pretty anxious to get the sl2x, although for some reason im having second thoughts thinking i might go with the sl2, its a shame i cant try before i buy but i cant imagine any of these things sounding bad and i can always sell. From what i have read the x just adds a bit of gain and bite, maybe a bump in the mids or something. If i could cover most of the sl2 territory with the sl2x and then with the sl2x get a bit more i would think the x would be the way to go.

I'd go w/ the SL2X honestly. You can get all the SL2 territory you want with it. Most ppl on the board here like the SL2X a lot more than the SL2....me personally.

I know Egnater gives you a 14 day or something "tryout period" w/ the modules...meaning if you don't like it, they can swap you a new one that fits you more.

i had a hairy brown eye.

i much prefer the eg5.

recommend setting of the treble around 9 or 10

mids 12-2

bass to taste.

got to be careful with the treble

Just got a twin module today, another great module, it's getting to the point to where I'm thinking I'm going to need 2 m4's before I'm all done, sl2x is next, should be ordering one this week unless someone here wants to part with one?
