The amp sounds great...much more "vintagey" than I expected...very cool. Does it do higher gain stuff as well?
Well, the intro is with the volume knob rolled back 60%, so that explains that. There is quite a bit more gain on tap if you want it, but I thought the fast rhythm part at the end sounded pretty gainy. Curt thought it had too much... Definitely can get more gain if you want it.rupe":7bmq2rmc said:The amp sounds great...much more "vintagey" than I expected...very cool. Does it do higher gain stuff as well?

If you are looking for 5150 red channel gain, this isn't the amp for you...

I'm just using an Edirol audio interface (which will be upgraded soon for other reasons), no mic pre.Chubtone":330vlg3y said:I am using an SM57 about an inch off the grill. It is miked on axis and is pointing right at the outside edge of the dustcap. I am playing LOUD. Really freaking loud. I also have a vintage API 312 Mic preamp into a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface. The only thing that is really drool-worthy or out of the ordinary is the API mic pre. And I was smart enough to ask my parents to get me that as a college graduation gift....... So lets just say I have had that for a long, long time.![]()
What kind of mic pre do you have? I think a great mic preamp makes a difference, but shouldn't be the difference between a muffled sounding clip and one with substantially more clarity.

I don't know anyone, but the Focusrite's were a consideration because they have drivers for 64bit XP. I may go with them. Unless the Edirol is broken, I would think I'd still get something similar though, even if it wasn't the same quality. No matter where I put the mic though, I can't get the treble in that clip with my current setup. That Edirol has had issues though...so may be.Chubtone":3gwds4nl said:Do you know anyone you could borrow a mic pre from and run that into the Edirol? The Focusrite I have has two decent mic pre's in it too and wasn't that expensive.
Your Edirol audio interface has mic pres built into it, they just aren't very high quality...Rogue":1dtvz1hp said:I'm just using an Edirol audio interface (which will be upgraded soon for other reasons), no mic pre.Chubtone":1dtvz1hp said:I am using an SM57 about an inch off the grill.
