First LTD guitars from mid 90's

Can anybody confirm if the first ltd guitars were made in japan? I've read that those models usually have good wood quality and nice hardware, with "ltd" instead of the model number in the 12th fret marker, and also serial number etched into the fretboard just after the last fret...

FWIK even from the beginning they weren't made in Japan.

Any opinions on these first models quality?

I don't think the early ones were particularly better than the later models.
I usually found higher priced LTD's had good feel and sound with nice fretwork that are comparable to ESP MIJ models, but then I rather found myself buying used ESP's. At that time I was able to get a bolt on Eclipse std for $400, a bolt on MII for $500-600 and so on.
