Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new amp. So far I've looked at a few, such as:
- Fender Blues Junior ($1199)
- Blackstar HT20 ($1099)
- EHV 5150 head + stack ($1999, second hand)
- Bugera V22 ($749)

Basically I just want the best bang for the buck. I don't mind paying a little more for something that will be worth it. Would love to hear any suggestions too!

Thanks in advance!

what style of music do you play ?

fair amount of variation in what you posted

the EVH 5150 50watter might be a good add to the list

Cheers for the reply.

I guess I'm more into the heavier side of things, but not really metal. I really enjoy post rock / drone / ambient styles at the moment, but would also like to play a bit of clean stuff too. Love Pink Floyd, Tool - that sort of thing.

Here's an idea of the sort of thing I'd like to play.

I'll just be playing by myself in my room most of the time, but I'd like to be able to jam with some friends as well (over a drummer, if possible). I have no plans to gig, but it would be a bonus to have something a slightly more portable if that ever happens - but it's not really an issue.

Cheers!

ah cool band, from what i've seen live, it's fender cleans with pedals , and i think a recto for the other heavier guitar tones

a VOX ac30 combo with pedals would probably work well for that, or a suitable Fender combo (say a used fender Blues deluxe or something) again with various pedals (boost, fuzz, distortion, delay, reverb and maybe modulation as well)

i'd look into Orange amps as well, think a rockerverb/thunderverb 50 might really be the ticket, or even the th100

good cleans and meaty gain for the dronier/ambient stuff, an orange amp with say delay + reverb pedal, and maybe a boost up front is probably all you'll need

hope that helps,

If you're looking for bedroom playing, portability, with the advent of playing with a drummer later on, then check out the 5150 III.

That's a list with wide variations on amp styles and budgets.

Are you in the US? Can you just get to a Guitar Center etc. and play a ton of amps to see which ones speak to you?

I hope im not too late to the party...
5150 III Mini 50 watt head!!!

TRUST me... BEST bang for the buck.

Out of those choices get the 5150iii.

Check out hovercraft amps for recycled jet city parts frankensteins at reasonable prices.

VHT Deliverance D120 or the D60

Under a grand used.
People say "one channel poo poo"

I say,"learn you use your guitars volume " clean to scream at the twist of the knob

The d120 killed. I loved it when I had one. The ONLY downside at the time was the lack of fx loop.

I second this.... the VHTs clean up amazingly well. Orange rockerverb and 5153 are great choices as well.

As crazy as it sounds I tried a Marshall DSL 15 at GC the other day and it sounded awesome for 499.

can't believe no one has said Mesa Mark III yet.

I have a 5150 iii 50 watt and matching 212 I might part with;)
