First tube amp - best bang for the buck?

MK III
DSL100
5150 III

DSL100 used is cheap and only recorded on a zillion records. Great amp that is hard to get. Bad to e out of.

Used JVM's can be found for very reasonable prices (under $1k for the 2 channel ones) and sound great.

The 5150/6505 line is what immediately comes to mind when you say bang for buck, but since it seems you would enjoy versatility I was going to recommend the 5150 III 50w (but 30 others beat me to it). Unlike many tube amps it sounds really good at bedroom levels, it's decently small at 35 lbs, has 3 channels that sound great (there's a volume jump if you switch between clean and crunch is my only complaint; the 100w head has separate EQs), it's cheap ($1000 new ~$700 used), and just sounds awesome.

5150/6505
Jet City
VHT Deliverance
Mark III
Avatar Cab or Used Marshall 1960

5150 III 50 watt is a great amp. I just sold one for $650 only because I had to recoup some cash from another purchase. I'll get another someday. 3 channel and sounds great at bedroom volumes. HUGE bang for the buck.

I just got picked up Randall RD45.. played the 5153 50 watt.. and while its a good amp, the Randall sounds better to me.. And its about $400.00 cheaper to

Check out the RD45, you will like what your hearing.. I am surprised that it hasn't totally pushed the 5153 50 overboard yet..

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new amp. So far I've looked at a few, such as:
- Fender Blues Junior ($1199)
- Blackstar HT20 ($1099)
- EHV 5150 head + stack ($1999, second hand)
- Bugera V22 ($749)

Basically I just want the best bang for the buck. I don't mind paying a little more for something that will be worth it. Would love to hear any suggestions too!

Thanks in advance!

Blackstar HT20 ($1099)??!! $499.99 through Musician's Friend brand new:

Even the combo is quite a bit cheaper than that.

used Mesa Rectoverb 50 combo - $6-700 out the door. Totally does that sound in spaces. I haven't heard the newer 25 watt ones yet.
