Bogner didnt even want to reissue the Fish. Because if they were going to do a preamp, they wanted to do a new design and ofcoarse they know they can now make a better sounding preamp. Because there was such a huge demand for the original, they decided just to reissue it and maybe do a new preamp down the line. But, I dont think the Fish sounds "dated" to me. Thats like saying the XTC or a Plexi sounds dated. 9 out of every 10 amps I sell at the shop are nothing more than high end copies of originals designed 30 to 50 years ago.

When I help my clients with getting tones for the Fish, I tell them most important controls on the Fish are the Master Volume on the back and the volumes on the front. Because these controls decide the output and saturation of the preamp gain. If u crank the master and dial in the volumes past noon and control the overall volume with the power amp, you will have a very saturated sound with tons of preamp gain. I use a VHT 2150 with the Fish. For a cranked amp sound at decent volumes, i run the VHT at about noon and control the overall volume with the front volume knods. This allows me to have a balance of power amp and preamp gain.

ok Im rambling

Shark Diver. will u bring your rig by the shop already so we can dial it in

I called you guys today, no answer. I was heading down there. I need to get that ISP. Waiting on my 2nd SLO and Surf Box to get here then I'll drag it down. I'm playing right down the street from you twice in the next month.

I got closer today with the tone deal. Bottom line for me is that the SLO has the best lead sound I've ever had. Really not even close. And I use to have a MKIIC+.

Ended up liking the Strato channel better for heavy rhythms, very tight. The SLO matches it in tone, actually fuller, but not the tightness. Not sure if I EQed the SLO differently whether I could get it tighter, but it's EQed for leads.

SLO clean channel dimed gives me a beautiful light gain break-up. Wicked good.

But I just can't get the Shark channel there. It really needs a mid control. Sounded much better following your advice. If the Balls was just a volume rather than a gain it would have worked better for me. But as I turned up using the Balls as volume it adds too much gain for what I would like. Makes it muddy and compressed, and with out being able to add some mids I can't clean it up. And lowering the bass just makes it thin. Bright switch, too bright.

Dialed the Strato in, so the Brown suffers a little because I would EQ it slightly different than the Strato. But it was the best compromise for me to get the higher gain dialed correctly.

If I had a mid control on the Shark (not sure if that's what the Cantrell mod is), and separate EQing for the Brown it would be perfect for me. At least for my gain rhythm channels.

Didn't even mess with the clean today. Waiting on my 2nd SLO and then it will be between the Fish and SLO for that.

My serial # 200 fish sounds great to me, and there are no mods in it.Rob @ tone M. has the right thing going about dialing it in...And dont EVER skimp on the poweramp.Buy the best you can..Also,the fish is on more recordings than we might think. Not just metal, but pop,top 40,country and rock...and # 1 hits too....

just a little note, I was at Bogner the other day and Jorg told me that Jerry loves the new fish and the Uber and might not be using his modded fish.

I've never played the original Fish, but the new reissue I've got sounds killer! I think I might actually prefer it to the Ecstasy. Better clean channel, a great mid-gain channel (Shark) and that Brown channel is just about perfect. Still haven't gotten the Strato channel to sound how I want yet, but have found uses for it.

How is the Cantrell modded Shark channel?

I will find out Monday when it arrives but I heard from others it had something done to the mids on the Shark channel and has more gain than than the Brown channel with the mod. Will see Monday when it arrives.

I think they take out the "bright/normal/dark" switch and put in a mid knob. For more variation of the mids. I'm not sure about more gain. They might, but it would seem weird that they'd add more gain since both the Brown and Strato channel would have more gain than the Shark to begin with. But I don't know. I might have kept my Fish if it had the Cantrell mod. I didn't like the switch, wanted it somewhere in between, which is what I think the mod does. Rob from TM would know.

hey guys

my black fish is getting the Cantrell mod done this week for the high gain amp shoot out. Theres all kinds of speculations on whats done to the mods. Reinhold didnt even remember, so we had Jerry Cantrell drop off his Fish so Reinhold could take a look at it. Its a very complicated mod and is time consuming. Im very gratefull they are doing it for me. I will then fine tune it with them. I really want the bass responce to be tight for low tunings.

Now that Bogner has the info they need to do the mod, Im 99 percect sure they will offering it. ill have more info this week

I am going to try my best to make it to the High Gain amp shootout since I am in norther Cali so we can A/B an Original with reissue Cantrell mod Fish.

Still wont know if I can make it till later this week if work allows it.

I will even bring my Ultra rare 96 Prototype G&L Rampage and it was supposedly the last one ever made with a 3 bolt neck plate. Story was Jerrys brother had it and it wound up in a pawnshop close to where Jerry has his ranch in Oklahoma, made its way to Ebay then me.

Sweet! Good to know

In the original post of Jerry's two fishes it looks like there is a small black switch under the fish logo, anyone know what that does?

A original Fish with Cantrell mod showed up on Ebay. I just wanted you guys to know this one has an issue with the Shark channel and its been like that since it showed up on the second hand market about 4 months ago. So buyer beware, what concerns me is it has not been fixed and if it was a simple repair it would have been done already.

I picked up my black fish today from Bogner that had just been modded with the Jerry Cantrell/Rob mod to it. All I can say is that it was crushing. If anyone has ever heard the We Die Young Demo tone, thats the modded fish. I plan on using the mod with lowered tuned guitars. So, I had reinhold tighten it up even more and I was in heaven. The Fish will be at the high gain amp shootout, so u guys will hear it then.

So can we send our reissues in yet?

Also is the "Anthrax/ Spitz mod" the same thing as the "Cantrell mod"?
