Just got these installed and they sound great...how close can they get to the string before causing magnetic pull and getting best tone possible? I have them a bit less than 2mm right now
it's a bit of a pain in the ass but it comes down to trial and error and seeing what sounds best. i've been messing with the mo joe in the bridge of my RG - just to see if i could get it to sound better before i put a super distortion i bought to replace it in -- i looked online and dimarzio suggests starting at about 1.5mm on the low E and 2-2.5mm on the high E for the bridge (while the top fret is held down) --- i had mine too far from the strings actually - i have it at about 2mm low E and 2.5MM high E now and it sound F'n awesome! i guess it must be a pretty finicky p/u as far as wood/mounting ect..... i've decided to keep the mo joe in after adjusting it. this guitar sounds like the classic les paul/marshall sound now - much improved! ...the neck p/u is about 3mm lowE and 3.5mm highE
a lot of it is personal preference. Not using Fishman but these positions i've used across passives and actives. it just seems to be the sweet spot to me for my playing
generally, I run my bridge about 3mm~ under my strings and my neck about 7mm~ below the strings. and my neck pick up high tends to get fiddle around with more than the bridge. at this point of playing for me bridge is set and forget.
