Fixing up China guitars: Controversial!

I guess if you've got the time, you could do anything you want. I cant find enough time to play as much as I like, let alone, try to make something out of a cheap axe. Plenty of those on Ebay.

I found an older experienced guy recently who setup some of my guitars. Experienced guitar techs can be hard to find these days if the nearest music store is a Guitar Center. It leads me to think that one of these guys could make a killing buying imported guitars and modifying them with a the proper setup.

They would be cool to pick up just to learn/work on fret work and cutting nuts. I don’t think I’d spend more than about $200 on one though.

I'm actually impressed for the $319 I spent on my aliexpress guitar. It's definitely usable and workable with a few adjustments.

It's better than I expected it would be, but I don't plan to try my luck again, at least for awhile

A guitar is the sum total of all it's parts and a good luthier . I'm sure there's some crappy custom shop offers but they would be few and far between and probably fixable if the guitar had problems . You get what you pay for . I'm sure there's some good Chinese children luthiers , after all when you set up 50 guitars a day you have to get better at it.

I hate to say it, China is starting to do a good job on guitar necks, bodies, amps, pedals and other accessories

My aliexpress $319 set neck, abalone bound and abalone fret marker knockoff of a discontinued $7K+ used guitar is better than I expected. My bank account thanks me for saving $6,681+ too

not perfect, not great, not bad, not awful, but it's a good solid guitar, looks great, plays great, stays in tune, balanced, IMO

What guitar?

@tonedover not gonna incriminate myself, don't want it confiscated lol. But the orginal was a limited edition custom shop guitar from a Japanese company, made for one year, less than 20 depending on who you believe. I've been looking for one for awhile, cheapest I've seen was $6200

I'm fine with Chinese guitars and other products, and Russian vodka; the latter is getting more difficult to find these days.

it's your money, spend it however you want.

Let's not forget how China became the largest manufacturing country in the world. \:D/

LOL ok - im sure “they” have an entire department scouring the forums …. If there were only 20 made im surprised there are reproductions. Dont typically see them take the time to repro high dollar production line models.

There are quite a few artist signature models and limited editions, not easy to use search to find some of them.
