Flatwound v. Roundwound v. Half-Round

I just put new strings on my jazz box.
Flatwound 9-42, from 1/2 rounds about 16months ago. I still have a few guitars with half’s and a few with rounds. I like the 1/2 rounds with single coils, but I like the flats with buckers more.
They sound like rounds but feel more like flats -but not really, so I took some side by sides.

Tried them once 50 yrs ago
Just like sex i was done in a minute.
Ran out and put rounds back on.

Now that i sowed my oats with heavy music and noise boxes i may try them again

Glad you're happy with them.

They’re so damn easy to play.

I like round wounds for guitar. Many of my guitars have the Ernie Ball super slinky on them. I'm an equal opportunist for bass and like both flat and round wound; depending on the situation.

I have flats on a P bass. They feel nice on your hands for sure. I once tried La Bellas on my Ric. They felt really nice. They may work for some types of music, but never for any of the types of music I ever played.

I use flats on my fretless bass. I actually went to tapewounds for a duller, more upright bass tone. I've played half rounds before on bass, but never on guitar.

Didn't even know half rounds were a thing. I've always wanted to try out flats but have been too lazy to just spend the $15.

I’ve been using half rounds on a mahogany neck-thru and absolutely love them on that guitar. On a Strat, I hated them and went right back to reg strings. The neck-thru guitar is very smooth sounding and the half-rounds suit it well.

Can somebody offer a comparison of half rounds to true flat wounds? Are they worth the extra $$ (I have a Bass, too)?
