What are your thoughts on the Floyd Rose® Original Series Tremolo Bridge?

Thanks!

As far as Locking tremolo systems go it's one of the best. Lately though it's hard to tell the difference between the German made units and the Asian ones, unless you know what to look for.

Cant go wrong with a Gotoh floyd. Feels smoother then the original.

I've had bad luck with the Korean FRs. The German ones are much better IMO.

I think they're great. I've got one from 1983 and I bought new a couple of years ago. I prefer the newer one. The german made floyds say "made in germany" on the bottom of the baseplate.

You do not get more real than this....................

Original 1984.

Ask Chubtone about them, he may be able to get you one. I have it and the piece is awesome, no binding of the fine tuners, chrome is perfect, and it is THE model that made Floyd famous.

I have three of the Floyd 1000 series and have abused one of them for almost 4 years now. What happened to yours?

Thanks for the info everyone! Didn't know there were many variations...unfortunately, I don't have more detailed info....but,

...this one is probably Korean made.

Are the specs / routing the same as the German version if I decide to upgrade?

sooooo, a guitar with this tremelo system or a hardtail bridge...about the same price.

which would you choose and why? (just looking for opinions and things I may have not considered, but I know which I'm leaning toward).

;)

nothing beats the Original Floyd Rose made in Germany unit.

ya know I hear all the raving about the Gotoh vs. the new OFR's and I'm not too sure about it. I think someone might be getting abetter profit margin with Gotoh than the newer Floyd'so perhaps that is the reasoning for pimping it so hard. They are not far superior in my opinion. I'd still take the German Floyd or German Schallar over the Gotoh

I purchased a new guitar with one, and the knife edge was chipped, making it worthless. Received a replacement unit, and it didn't stay in tune all that well. Eventually got a brand new German-made FR, and tuning issues magically disappeared.

It is exactly the same as a standard one, with the following exceptions. Nickel stripped from the block, fine tuners unpainted, arm mechanism is old-school type (if you like that). Just FYI in case someone might think there is more going on. Either way, nice trem.

I like them and have always used the OFR . When I break a string I just quikly reclamp it at the bridge .
That alone is worth it to me.

Some would say you'll have better sustain with a hardtail but if you put a big block on the trem, it can help make up for any loss. I'm just so used to playing a guitar with a floyd that I just like the feel better...

I have the 1984 and having floyds from the 80s as well there is no doubt the originals and 1984 are as good as they get. You may be on to something about profit margin...................

Thanks. I look forward to trying one soon! (waiting for the shipped notice from the shop!)
