Floyd Rose nut replacement

My old Kramer with original Floyd in my avatar has been making a clanky sound when I play the open D string really hard. I've tried sanding and inspecting with a magnifying glass but I can't make it stop. I can hear it at the nut when unplugged. But it's an R2 nut and this neck will accommodate an R3 so I was thinking of just replacing it. I would prefer R3 spacing. Should I just get a Floyd Rose brand or aftermarket? I'd rather not have to mess with it in order for strings to ring true with zero sitar. This is the old style with 2 bolts thru the neck.

I am a little confused. Are you trying to sand the frets? I would start at finding the problem. The floyd is one of the easiest to adjust because the nut can be shimmed, the floyd can move and you have the truss rod. At the same time, if you aren't used to doing some of the adjustments, it can be a pain in the ass. I would check your height at 1rst fret, 12th, and then check the neck straightness. the best way to do this without tools if you don't want to sight down with it is hold string down at first and 15th fret and check distance around 8-12.

I play the open d really hard also. My action has to either be set a bit high on bass side, or I have to be on point with setup. Googling all the proper tolerances and how to work on it can be a bitch. But I have done it.

Then after you figure out where the problem is, whatever you do to fix it is probably going to fuck up the intonation unless you are just adjusting truss rod. That is "easy" to fix also. lol. but all this can take an inexperienced guy like me about 4 hours. A lot of youtube videos and googling in between adjustments. Lotta cussing. Lotta beer

I'm sanding the slot in the nut but mostly just behind the leading edge. That's where the problem is, I can hear it when unplugged.

The setup is good. I put a Musikraft neck on it and leveled/crowned the frets. It plays great other than this clanking noise.

But I think a new R3 is justified. I just don't know if Floyd Rose, Schaller, or Gotoh is the best. I've had issues with other Floyd Rose nuts. FU Tone is ridic expensive so not that.
