I know it maybe is a stupid question but: :lol: :LOL:

I'm in D ( all strings one step down) with 0,11/0,49 (standard E in another guitar is use 0,10/0,46),
now i'm using 3 springs for the Floyd.
Done of course all..little truss rod/action/intonation adjusts..the Floyd base ramains parallel to the body..
..ok you say..what's wrong?
..So using 4 spring instead than 3 can i have a more hard to use vibrato and more stiff strings?.
I think no because the 4 spring's added tension i must re-adjust to the string's tension and i'll have the same feeling that now. :aww:

But maybe i'm wrong..any help appeciated. ;)

I am fairly sure that the string tension itself won't change because like you said you just balance the spring tension against the strings so in the end it is all relative. But the bridge will be harder to move from equilibrium, like if you do bends or use the bar at all. I run the same setup that you do, same string guages, but in drop C with three springs.

Thanks,
i like actual strings tension..i like a little more 10/46 feel on E but too many variables..different guitars,different frets etc.
I only find the bridge a bit too sensitive to bending and bar using maybe 4 springs in |||| setup can help it better than 3 in arrow setup.

If you really do like the feeling of an 11-49 set for standard E tuning then try this set for D standard.

Using an online string tension calculator, I used this string set as a baseline...

...tuned to E standard, and compared it to the set that I recommended up there, and came up with these results.

E5 .011" n == 16.67kg
B4 .014" n == 25.27kg
G4 .021" n == 38.94kg
D4 .028" nw == 38.65kg
A3 .038" nw == 39.15kg
E3 .049" nw == 35.71kg
total == 194.38kg

D5 .012" n == 20.73kg
A4 .016" n == 28.47kg
F4 .024" n == 40.46kg
C4 .032" nw == 40.47kg
G3 .042" nw == 37.89kg
D3 .052" nw == 31.7kg
total == 199.73kg

As far as tension goes, they are very similar. It should feel very similar to a guitar in standard tuning using 11-49 strings. Check it out and see if you like it, you shouldn't need to add a fourth spring in there, but you can if you'd like. Experimentation is always good.

I was looking at the numbers and I thought the tension on the high string might be a little high, even though I've used 12 guage strings tuned to D and I did not find it uncomfortable, it may not be the perfect match. This one is a little less tension across the board, but the higher strings are lighter, so it depends on the feel you are looking for.

D5 .011" n == 13.23kg
A4 .015" n == 24.26kg
F4 .022" n == 34.23kg
C4 .030" nw == 36.05kg
G3 .042" nw == 37.89kg
D3 .054" nw == 34.82kg
total == 180.49kg

Either one would be a good set. I would personally go with the Daddario's because lately I've been very into the strings being pretty even guages and the EB strings have weird guage intervals IMO. Again it's a different feel and totally up to you.
