Footswitch question on JJ 100

I guess this is for Dave, or anyone who has one.
My JJ100 came enclosed with a single button footswitch, and cable. My issue is that I hook up the footswitch and it will only change the channel once, and will not change in back. The cable is a tip/sleeve on both ends. I happened to have a Bogner shiva footswitch laying around, so I plugged in the tip/ring/sleeve channel changing jack from the Bogner footswitch and the JJ channel switches fine. Did I get the wrong cable for my footswitch or ???
Please Advise and thanks Dave for a unreal amp. It is blowing my mind man.

We'll see if Dave chimes in, but the JJ should only has a tip, sleeve cable, so you should have the correct cable and footswitch. The sleeve is constant ground and the switch alternates between connecting and disconnecting ground to the tip to switch between clean and dirty modes.

Sounds like an issue with either the switch or cable to me. In most cases, 1/4" cables now-a-days are built HORRIBLE. I advise everyone that buys them to unscrew and check them out and recommend to redo them, re-strip, tin, and solder ends on. They do them soo horribly, I get friends saying their cables are cutting out on stage or practice, I open them up and they are not tinned first so SOME of the strands are soldered and others are like hairs coming off of cable and shorting to everything in the plug end. {rant}.

Something to look into to and everyone with their foot cables, instrument, and amp cable. They all suck now-a-days!

That's not the issue. It's a wrong resistor value in the footswitch. It's need to be a 4.7 k not a 2.7k.. We can send you a footswitch or if you or somebody you know is handy with a iron the resistor just has to be change to a 4.7k of any kind. Please email me at friedmanamps@gmail.com to work this out. Thanks

Ok, I'm handy with the iron and have a RadioShack close by. No problem. I will try this and let you know how it goes. Thank you for responding.

Sorry for your trouble. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Mine did the same thing. No radio shack close by but I think I can handle that iron work. Thanks Dave.

No trouble at all. I couldn't be happier with the amp and now I get to dust off the Ol soldering skills with a project that is just my speed. Speaking of speed, thank you again for the quick reply and solution.

Cool. Thanks Dave.

Check your cables, guitar cables and everything while you're at it and make an iron-day and see if you have any crappy cables anywhere.

...oh, fyi, the one I have has the 2.7k in the footswitch, but it is switching fine.

Dave,
Performed the surgery on the footswitch last night, and she works fine now. My iron skills are definitely not as good as the person who initially welded up the footswitch, but alas connections are solid and good to go.
On a side note, it seems my trigger activated soldering gun might be a bit too powerful for future jobs (it's 100 watts). Any recommendations on a wattage that gets things hot enuff, but not too hot that I'm risking component damage. Wonder if there is a variable wattage iron out there for guitar and amp related stuff???
Anyways, thanks for the tip and the quick reply

UPDATE: I had issues with switching today! I pulled out the 2.7k and put it the 4.7k...BOOM Working again. So far so good.

As far as iron and wattage...yeah, 100w and trigger-type are WAY over powered and more suitable for soldering pipes!! :O You probably want something more like 40-60w. I use a Pace and set it at 650F pesonally. - fyi

Hi

I just bought a friedman jj, is the footswitch problem present in all jj's produced until today or is it already fixed??

Thanks

Most should have been taken care of. Some could be out there though. Please let me know if there is a issue.

Thanks Mr Friedman

I am going to pick it up today at my dealer (belgium)
It is a signed one so it's probably one of the first... I will check the resistor asap and let you know.

Regards

Michael
