For those who have actually played the Meathead...

Tell me about it? How different are the channels from each other? Are the cali mod type of tones in there in combination with other heavier tones? Every mini review basically says theres clean some cool mean and meaner type sounds, but no real breakdown. There are some ok clips from the ampfest, but nothing overly impressive (whereas there are some awesome clips of the cali, hulk, and bones floating around). Based on the other things I have heard out of the Fortin camp I am very seriously considering ordering one when I get my bonus next week, but I need more info before I really make that plunge.

I am actually considering a near complete rig overhaul and going with an axefx and a meathead.....

Well the first few have been sent out so that would be the reason for the mini reviews, I have been with one twice and there is just no way to give an in depth review other than first impressions.

That said the amp is incredible but it is not a cali mod type amp, ch 3-4 is pretty much the bones and 5-6 is retard full blown metal. I loved the amp, stupid articulate even at high gain settings, 3-4 clean up real nice from blistering gain to sweet cleans, super tight bass, and options out the ass.

A meathead and axefx would be an incredible rig.

Mike hopefully will be in LI this June, love to meet ya.

It is a killer amp and has its own thing going on. The posted clips sound okay, but playing one in person is an amazing experience.

See, I definitely agree on the 'OK'ness of the clips...Nothing spectacular. My number one fear of taking the plunge is based on my previous experience when stepping into an amp with too many features: that it may sound good but feel unnatural or that in comparison to say the single channel version, it doesn`t have the same tone and is just a giant mess of compromises....

Based on your experience, would you say there is the Jose style realm in there? In the ampfest clips it sounds like there is a bit of that going on, but its not entirely clear.

Channels 1 & 2 (clean to moderate breakup) are similar to each other, 3 & 4 ditto (low gain to high gain, basically Bones tones), 5 & 6 ditto (medium gain to ultra high gain, heavier/more saturated than ch. 3/4). So basically 3 entirely different channels, with each channel having 1 additional channel that is a cool variation of it.

To my ear no Cali sounds at all in the Meathead. Cali circuit is fundamentally different.

I hear you on the few number out the door, so I definitely understand that. But, it does seem to have been played by a number of people and I was hoping somebody out there would have more to say besides the simple antecdote of its awesomeness :D

My current rig is a Cameron modded XTC and my Friedman Kitchen Sink Marshall, my thought is to move the Cameron and replace it with the axe and meathead. I will be picking up the axefx in the next week or two, and that might just satisfy my needs, but it dawned on me last night that with everything I have going on I could make the total swap and end up with the Meathead, AxeFx, and Friedman. So, I started looking for more info on the meathead and just haven`t really found it!

If I end up getting the axe and being satisfied, I am going to buy a Metro MV kit and call it a day!

Mike has just recently shipped the first Meathead orders .... so for the most part, the only people who have had a chance to check out the amp were at last years amp fest. As he starts filling the orders, and more people have them, I am sure you will be hearing more about the amp with more detailed reviews!

I did get to spend some time with the Meathead here at my studio ... and I have a Bones amp. To hear my take on the Fortin Bones, you can type my name into YouTube and hear a bunch of videos I have up using that amp. :)

I love the Fortin Bones amp ... the tone is magnificent. The Bones is more on the Marshall-esqu side of the fence, but with a more modern vibe to it ... very articulate and fast. Tight low end. The Bones is a single channel amp with 3 different voicings, that allow the amp to get a variety of tones.

The Meathead is a beast ... channels 3-4 of the Meathead IS the Bones amp. There is no comprise. With the Meathead, you also have the Bones. Also, to clear things up ... channels 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 are doubles, with the same tones for those groups. But you can vary each channels settings, allowing for quick access to 6 totally different sounding channels. The Meathead can be integrated with a MIDI switching system, and will allow for an incredible variety of tones. The Meathead may very well be the most versatile amp on the market. I don't think any other amp can match it one on one.

The Fortin amps have a "sound". They have their own unique character which draws on the high gain tradition. The feel of these amps is incredible ... super fast, articulate and juicy! Having said that, everyone has there own preferences in how an amp sounds and feels ... likely you will be super pleased with a Fortin Meathead. Highly recommended.

I do love what i have heard from the Bones, enough that it was a consideration for me as well. Its nice to hear that 3/4 are the Bones as I have had a number of amps where this or that channel is supposed to be the equivalent of this other amp and it just doesn`t work. Its close, but there are obvious compromises. It sounds like I will have to do some serious homework on the Meathead :) The one youtue clip of channel 6 is pretty awesome, and then if 3/4 are the Bones and 1/2 are some good breakup style cleans I might just be sold....

The Meathead sounds fantastic, period. I doubt anyone who gets one will ever sell it. I'd be ordering one myself if it weren't for the Natas ;)

anyone know what Mike's current wait time is? I'm considering buying the Bones in the Spam thread. I didn't realize the Meathead 3/4 replicated the Bones. I may be better off stepping up and getting the MH. I loathe waiting an insane amount of time though.

I'll let you know in about 2 maybe 3 hours....got a Meathead landing here today....Along with a Loaded up Bones..... :D

Since so few have experience with this amp I do not expect much information. But it would be nice to hear a little more about channels 1/2~5/6 ..... you know - other than the Bones channels.

The only names I have heard it compared with is "Modern Marshall" for channels 3/4 (bones channels). I can hear that in the clips. Any other amp flavors the other channels are similar too ?

thanks ....

Congratulations .... this one gets one of these :rawk:

Spent the last 2 1/2 hours or so with the Meathead....Very simple layout...had it dialed in in about 10 minutes. Looks like a lot of knobs in pictures (It is alotta knobs...lol!) but basically what you have is 3 channels with an extra gain and volume control and 2 modes IE: set channel 1 up for a clean tone via Voicing L and then you can set channel 2 up with a little more hair on it via voicing M or H and set your gains and volumes accordingly. You can do the same with channels 3 and 4 and then 5 and 6...Each pair share the same eq but depending on your voicing style selected on each you do get 3 different flavors of mids ....So far a blast to play and will be taking it to rehearsal tomorrow. I threw in a quad of NOS RCA 6L6's and some Penta High gain and balanced 12AX7's......it rippin!! ...I'll post more later

Congrats bro!

I hope you dig it, that amp is insane with the amount of options available!

Oh yeah.....it just fills the room...Very authorative and punchy so...if you get one....move your furniture out of the living room and make the bedroom/man cave/practice room the TV room. What I'm sayin is...you can play it in the bedroom but to open it up...need a little space :D
