Played for the first time since being beat to death by Fortins and Camerons and it fucking sucked plain and simple. The reason was volume, at the fest we had the amps just jacked up through 2 4x12s and it was godly. Power tubes pushing big air and notes just singing forever and last night I was at normal after hours volumes and it just sucked sucked sucked.

Fuck low volume playing in regards to tube amps, I dont care what anyone says nothing is like a tube amp being gunned no matter the master on it. It has to do with flat out air movement and power sections being pushed hard.

Thanks Mike ya bastard

I have a feeling, after my NYC trip the wife isn't going to be to happy with me :scared:

I hear ya man - there's nothing like a amp cranked pushing air.

And this is the reason my Master volume on the modded 800 stays past 3 permanently :D

:hys:

To me it was still low volume because I had ear plugs in :hys:

With that said, Mike wanted to show what his amps could do at Killer death volumes and I must admit that I enjoyed every minute of it :hys:

:rawk:

I'll bet anything that the volume you played at the ampfest is a lot louder than you could use in any small to medium sized club. When i was young and practicing with bands i always cranked up volumes at band practice. Then when i first started playing out it was like culture shock with the volume police, otherwise known as house soundmen, and i had to redo EVERYTHING.

Funny thing, i sold my Marshalls in the 90's because i got sick and tired of fighting with soundmen at every freaking gig. I played Bar A in Belmar and had to face my cabinet BACKWARDS to the wall while my JCM800 was barely past 1.

With Mike mods though i imagine his amps would work in any volume situation.

For the 1:27 minutes that we played at low volumes they sounded great

I am sure I will get back to normal soon but man nothing beats a great amp being gunned

Oh yeah, the feel, sustain, gain, and volume push is addictive. That's where tube amps kick the crap out of processors and rack gear IMHO.

 I have selective hearing. I can't hear my amps until my pant legs are flapping.

Except without the important part - speakers moving so far that they flap your jeans and hair around! I keep thinking about that Back to the Future scene...

That is true.
For me, the band rehearsals is where I needed the extra volume. Only had a vocal PA and everything else had to blast.
When you're right next to a loud, heavy hitting drummer, cymbals at ear level   ...that's where the amp volume comes in handy
Of course at a gig with a full PA and your cab miced up, the amp has to be turned way down. Nature of the beast.

Cheers,
Mike
