Would love to check out those cabs. When we get back from the NAMM show, we'll set up a time for a Les Paul and Cab/Speaker session! Cool!

Very nice man! Sound was killer and playing was top notch as well.

Just curious, what string gauge on the LP?

Thanks loudgtr! The guitar is strung with GHS Boomers 10-46. I like the action low, but not too low ... somewhere around 3/64 and 4 /64. Also, I like my necks with very little or no relief. As straight as I can get it. I think this guitar has a 12 inch radius, so I can get the action in the 3/64 zone without too much buzzing. Harder to get it there on my old strat...

Exactly how I like all my guitars set up too. 10's on the LP scale guitars I have and 9's on the Strat scale guitars work for me.

Sounds fantastic Carl. Was that Marshall cab the amp is sitting on top of the one mic'd for the recording ? V30s ?

Love your style man, super tastey and interesting note selection  I could use that DVD :)

I've also always wanted a great Les Paul of my own. Thanks for rekindling that GAS :D

Thank you for the super kind words here. :) I was not using the Marshall cab the amp was sitting in the video. Primarily as it would have overwhelmed the vocal mic. The cab was locked away in an amp closet and close miked through an API pre amp. The cab you are hearing was a Cornford 4x12 loaded with V30's. Great sounding cab ... the Marshall pictured has been my workhorse cab. That is loaded in a "X" pattern with two greenbacks and two V30's. I got that idea from Mike Fortin ... as I think he said Greg Howe does that. I really like both the greenback and V30's ... very different. I had been experimenting with various speakers a while back. When Ralph was here he was telling me about the H30's (that was that the one Ralph?) ... anyway, I would really like to check those out soon too ... this gear thing never ends!

Yup!! I was telling you about H30's!! I think that you would love them. They are very vocal like and they can handle bass better then the Greenbacks!! I have a marshall cab with them loaded in it that you can try!!
While we are on that subject.. I think that you also need to check out the 65's! They are killer speakers and I plan on picking some up after I get som cash. Should be about the year 2020 when I can afford them!!

YOU ROCK!!

BTW, I need you to tweak my Les Paul!! Let me know how much!!

Ralph

Hey Gainfreak, which H30's are you refering to? The Anniversary ones (@75 Hz)that are cheaper and come with the regular Spade ends or the more expensive Heritage H30's (@55Hz)that have the Solder ends and come in the Marshall Handwired cabs?

I wish Celestion just used a better method than having 2 different speakers both be called G12H30

I actually own and prefer the Anniversary ones!! I found the Heritages to be to harsh for some reason and the Anniversary series works better for what I like.
On the other hand, I prefer the Heritage series greenbacks lol!!

Thanks for the info man. I know that M. Cameron, M. Soldano and the Mojave Amp dude really like that same speaker too, so I really need to try them out. I love the Heritage GB's that I play with my Soldano SLO and spoke with M. Soldano recently and he said that the "spade clip" H30 was his favorite Celestion.

Awesome playing! When is the DVD due out?

Randy

Thanks Randy! It should be out in February. The producer printed a small sample run for the NAMM show, and I asked for a video to be posted on YouTube. There will be some more snippets up on YouTube soon.

Briefly, the video focuses in on Lead Guitar playing for rock/fusion/progressive styles. I did a section on phrasing (which I don't often see on guitar DVD's), and also how to approach soloing over the 3 primary chord types. (major, minor, dominant) Then I did a section on Voice Leading with ideas on how to "make the chords changes" in your solo. There is also some bonus material with full song performance, gear section, interview ... etc. As a long time fan of guitar DVD's, I had always wanted to make one myself! It was a lot more challenging then I thought. Basically the idea was to "bridge the gap" between the theory and real world performance, as that is always a difficult bridge to cross. (it was for me!) "Ok, I know the Dorian Scale ... now what?!?!?"

Sounds like something I could really use!! I'll be at NAMM with Ralph, we'll have to get together and have a few cold ones.

Oh I need this dvd and no I won't be at NAMM

Guys. Ive seen this DVD and it's awesome. Most Instructional DVD's showcase the player in a way that they just play endless licks and all you learn is well...endless licks with no practical application of how to use them in the context of a song. (Im not sayin that all Instructional DVD's are like this but many are IMHO)
This DVD will show you some cool ideas and you will walk away with the ability to use these ideas and incorperate them into your own playing. I love this DVD because it will actually teach you something! Definitely cool!!

I want a case of LI water to go with my dvd, the elixor of stupid chops :D

Beautiful! Just beautiful, Carl!!

Thanx for posting this!

Keith

Nice playing! I am interested in the video too! Tones are nice from that amp.

...and yes check out some H30's   I have them in my Bogner 4x12 and sound pretty darn good.

Hmmmm tone was a bit too saturated/grainy for my taste...

But playing and content was top notch ofcourse. Loved listening to it. Which is what matters ultimately, isn't it?

Awesome clip and playing! Been hearing killer clips of the Bones, let us know when the dvd is out

Nice playing. I can't tell how the amp sounds with neck pickup soloing though. Would like to hear more chord work of it.

EXACTLY the same as my reaction.. I thought the playing was great. I couldn 't tell anything at all about the amp as it sounded pretty much like many rock tones I already get with my gear. Pedals and amps... . BUT the playing was awesome ,and would love to hear more tones from the amp.. The best demos of the amp I've heard by far are all the clips on the Fortin site. . They showcase the amp tones GREAT and I love most of them .

Thanks for posting! ERIC
