What can you guys tell me about this amp?

Bueno? No es bueno?

Just doing my homework before I decide on my next amp purchase.

I'm looking to stay within the core Marshall tone.

Jmgman has a Bones, and I've liked that better than any of the Fortin Marshall mod's I've played, by quite a bit.

He used to offer a bunch of different options on the Bones, but I believe that stopped at some point.

For me, the amp wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable without the Raw switch, and a couple of other features I can't recall at the moment.

Maybe Jason will chime in; if not, shoot him a pm.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :)

All I know is that the current production version of the Bones has more gain on tap that previous versions.

I love the simplicity of the Bones but as of now, I'm trying to decide between it and the PWE EH3.

Great amp, simple, peeled back of all the bells and whistles, but in total possession of that woody, kerrang, knock that Mike has dialed in like none other. If you want some clip time, check out some of Carl Roa's YT vids as he was using a Bones for a number of demos.

You wouldn't by chance have a 20th Sheevs as well, would ya?

Definitely didn't need more gain (IMO), but I do remember without the Raw switch, it wasn't anything I would have enjoyed; huge difference, on his particular amp.

What did the 'Raw' function do exactly?

I've got one also
Don't know if I have the "raw switch", but I do have an extra switch for added gain

Is that the mini-toggle switch above the Bass knob or above the Mid knob?

Brought the thing to life

In all honesty, I've only played the thing two or three times, but they were basically all day hangs, with all of my personal amps there as a reference point (for me).

PM Jason for the particulars of his amp, but I can tell you this; the Fortin mod's I've owned or played were not my thing, but I really enjoyed that particular amp.

Here's the switches:
Gain: Bright switch off/on
Bass: Boost off/on
Middle: Voicing L/M/H
Treble: Mid Gain/Off/Flat Gain

I don't see any switch above the Treble knob

That's what I was saying, it's an extra switch, was added by Mike of course, probably at demand of the 1st owner

Ah I see

I owned one and really wasn't my thing. The mids just weren't voiced to my liking and no matter what I did (tried every tube possible) they weren't there. The Raw switch is definately a must on that amp. With out it, it's pretty blah.

Hey guys,
I talked to Mike a month ago about my Bones, tubes he suggested etc.
Anyway, I did ask him about the switch above the Treble and he told me
"The 3 way switch above the Treble control only affects the H voicing position. Center position is stock, to the left is a full freq boost, to the right is an upper mid gain boost."

And I agree with my fellow RT'rs, the Raw/Smooth switch turns it into two different animals.
It's got a lot of versatility for a single channel, oh and louder than a mofo too!

Yeah that's exactly what he told me by mail (awesome customer service by the way, well just plain great guy even if you're not a customer) I was too lazy to check last time so I inverted left/right functions in my description.

Might sell mine if anybody's interested...

Yeah I had a Bones that was loaded except for the dual gain control. The raw switch was really cool and I really liked the amp and the raw switch was awesome. I sold mine to fund a 2 channel amp but Coincidentally my main amp is now a single channel friedman JMP, LOL!

The Bones sounded great, plenty of gain but after going back to modded Marshall's there did seen to be something to me about the mids that I wanted to be a little more Marshall. Keep in mind mine had the 6550/El34 mix so straight EL34's prob would have made some difference. Mike Fortin is easily one of the best guys I have personally dealt with however and goes above and beyond!
Here is a short clip of mine but keep in mind I was going for a tight metal tone and was recording with a shitty android phone!
