Fortin Hex Drive OD

Seems interesting! A little steep on the price, but I took the plunge!

Got tracking this AM. Obviously shipping from inside the U.S. No USPS service today, but I should have it Thursday!

After the 33 I never had any interest in another. Just recently the Grind caught my interest but meh. I got a Maxon. Can an extra $100 be THAT much better for a boost? Just depends on what amp you have IMO.

I have a Grind and it sounds great with some amps but not all. It doesn't sound good with my VHT Sig X. My TS9 mini sounds great with ALL my amps.

the blade only had a small window of usefulness with my amp. I havent tried the 33 yet. I have a friend who is building an OD808/Intergrated preamp combo pedal so Im hoping to have it shortly. Let us know how it goes. The Hex Drive was hands down my favorite boost on the Neural plugins

Lord knows. It is unique, in that the drive knob and tone knobs work a bit differently.... Supposedly. Maybe it'll be limited edition, and when they run out I can off it for $500.

I didn’t care for the 33, but I get what they were going after. You need to be using an amp with crazy bottom end. With the Uber’s bottom end on 10 it will sound cool.

That said, I use a Pepers Dirty Tree pedal. $130! It is a TC Integrated Preamp clone with a “33” switch. The shocking part is it is super quiet.

For now I will stick with my SD-1 and await more real world impressions and demos. Killertone is great but he’s endorsed by Fortin so a bit too biased to take as completely objective.

Mine’s on its way to Canada, probably won’t see it till end of the week. Have to see if it gets pulled by customs then I have another 10$ handling charge + 13% on top for tax

Mostly curious at how much gain I can get from it in front of the JCM 800. In Killertone’s vid it seemed really good. I have a Waza SD-1 which is perfect, but at the lower volumes I play I feel like I need a slight extra gain kick (I use a Boss GE-7 with a little extra mid and output bump). Also have the Grind when I want a non-TS more modern sound so be cool to compare.

I'm curious as well. Using a Splawn, it's already got the 800 vibe with more gain, but, can I get it angrier?? That's what I'm hoping to accomplish!

That's what I run currently... Waza SD-1 (run on normal mode), drive at 9 oclock, Level at like 4 o'clock (hair under full) into my mini JCM800 (20W)... and then I run an MXR Custom Audio boost in front of the SD-1 with ~7-8 dB of boost (per the dial). Sounds wicked.

I'm definitely intrigued by the Hex Drive though!

I have only tried briefly but I like the way the knobs interact and seem to impact the sound, you can get quite a few sounds out of this box . Tested with ENGL Fireball100, Deliverance 120, Soldano Avenger and a Mesa Tremoverb heads. Used my Parker pdf85 w/ bare knuckle painkiller and a Vader 412 cabinet. The pedal matched the first 3 amps immediately and I had no trouble dialing shit up. The one where I had the most trouble was with the tremoverb's red channel, but finally found some good settings. All my testing so far has been at low/moderate volumes, will test in band practice on the weekend, but i will be keeping this pedal (first time i like a fortin product)

Disclaimer: I got the pedal almost for free since a friend ordered it for me and I gave him an Agile guitar i was selling. Guitar had no value for me so he ordered the pedal for me and kept the guitar. Maybe if I had to fork out the $250 out of my pocket i would not be as enthusiastic, but even if you wait for the pedal to hit the used market for $160-ish give it a try.

I was never keen on the Grind or, 33. Nothing about them really interested me.

It’s interesting looking. I believe he said it was a tube screamer variant with fixed frequencies? That said it would seem like the VFE Dragon would be better just because the user has the ability to adjust the high and low pass filters giving the user total control.

Since those are all fairly high gain amps (I don't know what a Deliverance 120 is)... Are you using the Hex Drive more in the "clean boost" zone of the drive setting (per Killertone's vid, clean boost up until about noon on the drive knob, then it's in overdrive mode).
