Been using Reaper since 2010. I've paid for the license twice in that time based on their 2 full version license policy. Well worth it. Will pay again. But you don't have to pay.

As anyone mentioned Reaper?

Oh, yeah.... $Free Fiddy Free.... if you are a cheap bastard and don't want to cough up ~$60 for a lifetime license

Another vote for Reaper Lite, lots of good tutorials out there to start recording and learning the basics

I did all the vocal tracking, mixing and other post production stuff on my album on FL Studios 2024 that my kid has on his computer. Results were decent.

I need to actually learn it, instead of treating it like a digital version of my Tascam 424 MKII Porta studio

You don't even have to learn it inside and out - just some keybinds for the stuff you're doing over and over again, and save some templates for the most common types of mixes you do.

I've been using it 15 years or something and have never actually deep dove into everything you can do - I just use what I need and ignore the clutter.

Works great, honestly
