Been using Reaper since 2010. I've paid for the license twice in that time based on their 2 full version license policy. Well worth it. Will pay again. But you don't have to pay.

Reaper here too - on linux becuase i like pain. I started with Ardour and had nothing but problems. Once you get the hang of Reaper there's no looking back.

For anyone who's bought a MOTU interface I highly recommend the free light version of DP that comes with it.
It's not constrained by ridiculous limits like most other "lite" versions of DAW's. Basically just simpler is all.

I did all the vocal tracking, mixing and other post production stuff on my album on FL Studios 2024 that my kid has on his computer. Results were decent.

Yeah, Reaper is legitimately a great DAW, and once you setup a few custom keybinds, the workflow happens just about as fast as you can think it.

You don't even have to learn it inside and out - just some keybinds for the stuff you're doing over and over again, and save some templates for the most common types of mixes you do.
I've been using it 15 years or something and have never actually deep dove into everything you can do - I just use what I need and ignore the clutter.
